I think the question we have to ask is how would Wilson have done playing for Alabama. I believe he would have out played Lawrence for the #1 rated QB IN this year's draft.
First, of all, I'd never make that trade. I want Wilson. I don't really want Fields or Lance, but if one of them is the pick, I will root for him. If forced to stay put, I'd take Fields because he is more accurate than Lance and has more experience. If I had a decent vet to start for a year or two, I might take Lance. IMO if Atlanta doesn't take Lance, and instead trades down or takes Pitts, I think they're nuts. I don't think they're going to get to or win a SB in the next year or two with Matt Ryan. I think adding Lance and letting him sit and learn from Ryan for a year or two would be great for them. I wouldn't want Jones. For a while I liked him over Fields and Lance, but not ultimately. He processes quickly, makes good decisions, and is very accurate. I don't think he has an NFL arm, at least not for the NE part of the US, and I don't like his almost total lack of mobility. Sure he can slide around the pocket a little, but is not really that mobile. He could be fine for a dome team or Miami, or maybe even Carolina, but even with his similarities to Brady, I can't see NE taking him. The fact that he isn't in shape doesn't speak well about him to me, and I don't like the fact that he's already had a DWI. That doesn't show good judgement for a QB .
I still feel like jones is the pick for SF but we'll know in a week. if thats the case ATL should take fields and he can sit a year to learn from ryan but their window isn't open and they need to rebuild an ageing team with a lot of holes. then lance goes to denver at 9
There are TGG members that are crucifying the Jets for presumably taking Wilson over Fields. But here you have SF giving up significant draft capital to move up and take Mac Jones over Fields. Whatever forum SF fans frequent, they are lucky that some of the Fields nuts swingers here don't root for their team! Can you imagine the gif barrage they'd be facing
I can't imagine SF would ever agree to such a thing, but if they did I'd do it in a heartbeat. I'm not delusional enough to be Bosa-level confident that I know who the best QB in this class will be.
Why would JD tell the 49ers who or how many QB's the Jets were interested in? Based on what we've seen from him so far his wife probably doesn't know which side of the bed he wants to sleep on from night to night until he actually lies down.
What if it didn't come from JD but someone currently on the Jets staff that Lynch is familiar with? He did pull the trigger on that trade while both groups were at the BYU pro day and didn't even wait until the throwing started. The timing of that deal can't be ignored.
I doubt that anybody but JD and possibly Saleh knows exactly what the pick is going to be at this point. It's not like the organization has an executive council that decides on the picks. The scouts do their job, the coaches make their preferences made and then the GM ultimately makes the pick. If anybody other than JD and Saleh knew for sure it would be a rock solid fact out there and the media would be reporting this as coming from the Jets from unnamed sources. Instead you have a bunch of guys that have made assumptions and then pestered JD repeatedly at various opportunities to confirm. JD hasn't even mentioned Wilson. He's just said that trading Darnold makes it seem likely the jets will take a QB at #2. "Likely". I would not be shocked at all if Penei Sewell is the name that comes out of Roger Goodell's mouth at #2 on Thursday night. I wouldn't be shocked if he stepped up to the mic and said the Broncos were on the clock. I wouldn't even be particularly shocked if he stepped up and named Justin Fields although I think that's a bit less likely than either of the above.
There are a lot of human beings in close proximity and information pays well in this day and age. I believe they are doing some diligence to keep info safe but I think this one has been out of the bag for a while.
