I think you inadvertently unsurfaced the underlying cause for Wilson’s ascension. Many are looking for the next Mahomes. I’m not. My favorite QBs from each draft cycle where I think we are in the market have been completely different from each other. I believed he was the most talented of the bunch in 2017 and Fields is that this year.
This is irrelevant because the general trend is that the higher you pick any position the more likely it is the guy will be good. That's just a fact. Cherry picking single draft spots and saying "guys picked #2 or #3 often fail" is faulty logic and statistics. There are more successful guys picked later because there are far more guys total taken later. That doesn't mean they succeed at a higher rate than guys taken earlier.
Wasn't much of a "running start" to go 2 yards. And again, the pick was enabled by the primary receiver being pulled backwards by the defender enabling the other defenders to get to the ball. Should've been a PI as well. As for the "rainbow", that's the typical trajectory of a Hail Mary where you expect your receivers to have a chance to "out scrum" the defenders. You're basically throwing to a spot, not a receiver, and you need to give your guys a chance to get to that spot and contest it.
We aren't recognizing their faults enough to admit that none of them are worth taking at 2 - or passing up the gold mines that we could have gotten. Basically we are saying Wilson/Fields is worth 3 firsts and 2 seconds, or some number of high picks and a blue chip skill player. To me that is worshiping the position.
I've gotta laugh at people having a problem with a guy throwing a 65 yard rainbow. How many QB's throw 65 yard frozen ropes?
The Jets passing on Mahomes has had ripple effects. We trade up blindly the year after and now 3years later we may be over drafting a kid because he’s been dubbed the next Mahomes.
A top 10 QB is literally worth a lot more to wins and losses than three top 10 guys at any other positions. Look up WAR for the various positions in football.
no it's understanding the situation of the team. we traded darnold. we need a QB we have a choice at any QB not named lawerence in this draft thanks to having the 2nd overall. any QB can be the next mahomes or the next tim couch. it's always a risk. all the teams that thought like you passed up on mahomes. wasn't worth taking high. it's why the jets took adams over him. you don't think those 10 teams that passed on him (including the team that traded the 10th pick away for more picks) would rather have mahomes then those picks? it's just seeing the situation and making the best decisions we can. the NFL isn't madden where you can trade for 100 picks and land all pro bowlers and have a 99OA team
I have to admit ouchy, even though I disagree with you and would draft a QB (Wilson) at 2, I do respect how passionately u believe in your "Trade back" philosophy. U have been sincerely advocating for that on the board, for some time now, while everyone else has gotten caught up in the Wilson v. Fields debate. You also make an excellent point (which I bolded above) regarding how unique this draft is, with every single team in the Top 10-15 seemingly being intent upon taking a QB if they can get one ranked anywhere near the top 5-6 at the position, lol.
that's nonsense. JD had nothing to do with passing up on mahomes and isn't drafting wilson for that reason. you say you think highly of JD but posts like this make it seem like you think he's an idiot
And Bosa is already seriously degraded by injury. A top FQB has a shelf life at least twice what any other player has: • NFL: average career length | Statista Note that while this chart shows that QBs average 4.4 years, that's an average of ALL QBs, including scrubs. As I said, the TOP QBs play much longer, usually 10 or more years, and since the League Average is 3.4 years you can see that's quite a difference. And I echo the point that no position has near the impact on a team as QB.
because you keep making things up he cna't do that he can. at this point what you believe and factual video evidence is disconnected. I mean you sad he's never thrown a ball 60-65 yards then someone posts him throwing a 64 yarder and you ignore it. you purposely don't see the truth so you can believe your fantasy
If you think Mahomes’ success is not playing a part in how scouts view Wilson, you are naive at best.
That's a disingenuous comment. I could easily say "You can get a DL, or RB, or WR anywhere, but you can't get a Peyton Manning anywhere". The fact is that you CAN'T get a top FQB "anywhere" with any reliability. The farther back you draft, the worse your odds are, especially for a team with a losing track record like the Jets.
This post doesn't relate to my point. And can we quit with the Wilson is Mahomes stuff? Nobody had ever heard of Wilson before he played the 114th hardest schedule in college and looked sorta good doing it. Any team that gives away a gold mine for that deserves the ridicule they have coming.
