You were acting like there wasn’t a difference. I countered. That strength also manifests itself in alternate hash and when you have to get throws in tight spaces against better DBs than what Wilson has faced. Again he has a very good arm. It looks better than Darnold’s but I don’t see special. Special would allow me to overlook the frame, injury history, level of competition and questionable throwing decisions. That’s just me though; the world disagrees. I’m cool with that like I’ve been in prior drafts.
Do you have eyeballs? That was in the air. CC also gave you another example of it. Stop making things up to fit your bias.
I maybe be blind like I’ve been accused of several times. Everyone keeps telling me it’s special but I don’t see it. The release is special in that is so quick and fluid but I don’t put as much value into that as others.
"Almost" only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. Or how about "The 'good' is the enemy of the 'best'"? What you seem to be advocating - not just here but in your previous comments on the draft - is that Douglas "play it safe". I won't say that a "safe" approach is bad, but I think all it leads to is mediocrity - making the playoffs once in a while, but never getting past the first round and certainly not getting to a SB. And yes, I know that there have been teams that have followed the "slow and steady wins the race" recipe, but I think most of them had some regular success in their history, unlike the Jets. You don't hit HRs on checked swings.
You could be right, but from what I've seen, and backed up by the assessments of guys like Simms, Jenkins, O'Sullivan, and Warner, I feel confident that what I'm seeing is pretty accurate. Again, if you have Zach and Patrick get on their knees and throw a football, Mahomes's ball will go farther, but Wilson can throw the ball far enough and with enough velocity IMO.
It's not a question of playing it safe. It's a question of not taking unnecessary risks. Zach Wilson is an unnecessary risk. He's a level of competition risk. He's an injury risk. He's an in over his head in NYC risk. When you add all the risks that he represents up he is more likely to fail than to succeed and probably not by a small margin either. The #2 pick is not for taking a QB because you need a QB. The #2 pick is for taking a great player because that's what a team that was bad enough to get the #2 pick really needs out of the pick. The #2 pick is for trading down into the multiple assets that a team bad enough to get the pick really needs. Taking a QB because the Jets need a QB, and one with physical and level of competition issues, is like pissing into the wind.
The video didn’t appear the first time. That’s the longest throw I’ve seen from him. Looks if he needs to chuck it 60 he can. I stand corrected. I’m still not a believer in his arm based on seeing balls dying on him.
legler said "The next time Wilson throws 60-65 yards it will be his first time". I provided evidence to refute that. But if you want to get picky trying to dismiss the throw, the primary receiver was pulled backwards by the defender and there was no flag, enabling the INT to occur. Also, he could've thrown it further, but no receiver would've been able to get to it.
What QB doesn't have risks? It hasn't been talked about, but Lawrence had labrum surgery so it's clear he's not invincible, and while he's 2" taller than Wilson, he's 5 pounds lighter, making his frame slender in comparison. And his "level of competition" wasn't all that great, and he lost to OSU with all the chips on the table. I'm not saying he's a terrible prospect, but he's no "slam dunk" either. And given that he's been called "generational", how much safer do you think you'll get in drafting a QB?
Not true. QB's taken high but not #1 overall are more likely to bust than most other positions. How many QB's taken on the #2 and #3 in the NFL draft have worked out vs failing? How many when the best QB was already off the board? The answer to both questions is a much smaller percentage than you would imagine. http://www.drafthistory.com/index.php/positions/qb
fields doesn't have a special arm so i'm not sure of the argument here. it's not like josh allen, pat mahomes, and zach wilson are our choices here. the choices are wilson, jones, lance, and fields. wilson has the best arm of the bunch. the rest is nonsense. You know your wrong, thats why your moving goalposts you complain he never threw 60 yards then someone posts him throwing a 64 yarder. now your making up the hash mark thing. I've seen him make those throws time and time again. now your circling back to the DBs suck. which is nonsense. even the best DBs in the NFL can't guard a perfectly placed ball. meanwhile in your own fields video you posted, he threw what should have been an easy INT and the DB played it so poorly it was a long TD. your over generalization of how bad DBs are is just not correct. they are still athletes sure not as good as NFL ones but they aren't brain dead zombies either. Maybe 3 QBs in the NFL have a "special arm" allen, rodgers, mahomes. you know who doesn't have a special arm? brees, manning, brady, wilson, watson (sans the sexual assault stuff), jackson. thats only a few and all of them have made playoffs, pro bowls, and some all pros. most won a SB. what they all have in common is a fast processor, protect the ball, and get it where it needs to go. I get you don't like wilson, IDK why. off the field he's perfect. an OCD film junkie raised in a good home with good values. a humble guy who is a competitor loved by his teammates and coaching staff. a guy who has a drive to be the best he can be at anything. a guy who loves football. on the field you have a fast processor with a great arm who can improvise with a quick release who makes smart decisions. he may have a rough rookie year adjusting to the NFL but wilson is gonna be good and more importantly he's gonna be a jet in less then a week so you can hate your favorite teams QB and go be a fan of whoever drafts fields or you can just be objective hope your wrong about wilson and cheer for him. your nit picky arguments against him are embarrassing to yourself though.
Let’s say they both can throw the ball from their the same distance. I wasn’t concerned about Mahomes’ frame. I wasn’t concern about Mahomes surgically repaired shoulder. I wasn’t concern about Mahomes’ decision making in and out of the pocket. I wasn’t concern about the level of competition Mahomes faced relative to who he was playing with. That’s a lot of concerns for ME. They may not be red flags but they are at least orange. The only thing that would make me overlook those flags would tier 1 arm talent. You see my point?
Lol ah, now that Legler's exact point has been blatantly disproven the goal posts shift. Gotcha. Kind of like the phantom rotator cuff issue, right?
Fields does not have a special arm talent but he has close to elite arm strength and elite athleticism. I’ve see Fields consistently drop 60-65 yard bombs with perfect ball placement. I have no concerns about his frame, shoulders, decision making or the level of comp he played. Manning was generational. The rest of the guys you mentioned were not the 2nd overall pick. Why does it bother you so that I prefer Fields and feel Wilson will be overdrafted if picked by the Jets?
