Theres talk amongst the cardinal ranks of the church of Simms that you were born of a Jackal.Your response?
You disliked Herbert, thought highly of Eason and Hackenberg, and said before the 2017 draft that even though you liked Mahomes, you didn't think he was worthy of our 6th pick, so it isn't like your record is perfect either.
Both Key and Tanny made some good points about Wilson long term durability, a concern we discussed many times here.
Yes, that is one of - actually maybe the only - concerns I have. That said, their comments about the rigors of a 17 game season, and being able to take hits from 300+ pound DEs, etc. are all concerns that need to be attached to any of the college QBs. Trevor Lawrence is 1-3" taller depending on what measurements are use, but at this point he's also 5 pounds lighter than Wilson - not exactly "The Hulk". The things that count most for me are who is more accurate, has the better arm talent, has the better "processing ability" and is more creative? Injuries happen all the time, and a lot of times it's the bigger stronger players who get hurt because they maybe aren't as agile or they don't protect their bodies as well because they believe they can take the hit.
Agree, I also read he has a very good pocket sense and can feel the pass rush hopefully that is a plus. In any event, I hope we take our time with him, we don’t need to rush him and out there, develop him with the new OL for half the season. We need to beef up that OL first and foremost.
Dislike Herbert?!?! I barely watch college QBs when we are not in the market. as a developmental pick. “highly” is hyperbole. Again hyperbole. Every media outlet was tying us to Hack prior to the draft. I tried to rationalize the pick not unlike many are doing now with Wilson. This very misleading. Early on in the draft process when most mocks didn’t have him as 1st round pick. I was hesitant and felt we could get value by getting him in day 2 or late day 1. Why draft someone 6th when most of the draft world was projecting him in the 3rd-4th round. By the time the rest of the “experts” caught on to Mahomes, I was all all aboard the Mahomes at 6th train and trying to get more passengers. My record on QBs beyond the 1st round is straight ass. Please refer to Stidham, Driskel and Brissett; those guys I was actually “thought highly” of. It’s hard for QBs drafted outside of the first to get legitimate opportunities let alone make it. That said; I did like Dak though so that’s one. I’m glad you are a fan or not a fan but I do ask that you be accurate.
So if Herbert had played poorly last year, you wouldn't have taken credit for having seen it coming? And the same for the other QBs too? I mean if you want to play the QB guru role, fine. But the moment you start disparaging other people's bad predictions, don't get upset if someone points out your bad predictions.
Just because I knock the NFL draft pundits for over analyzing Herbert as they are accustomed to doing to certain QBs every year doesn’t I’m taking credit. Did I sound upset in my response? I thought my response reflected my calmness. I never once called my self a guru. It sounds like you are the one upset about the label. If you got a problem with that label take that up with the folks that toss that around.
Far as the face of the franshize we could do a lot worse than Zack Wilson. He's a very pretty boy similar to a very young Mark Sanchize and will he'll fill the stadium with screaming 40 year old chicks. Crowd noise will be like "WOAH!!! Whos playing today? Zack Wilson or the Beatles???". My wife wants to know! But the wear and tear of a full 17 game season will be Zack's Achilleas heal. It's sad, but I don't believe Zack will ever complete all 17 games. Stand him next to Ben Roethlisberger and he looks like a junior high school kid sniffing around one of Big Ben's daughters. He's that small. Zack will be the scat back of the NFL. His best throws will be underhand while doing cartwheels down the LOS. Something's gotta give. His short game is terrible too. Screens? In the flats? Forgetaboutit. He's beyond bad. At least 1 pick 6 a game will come off badly thrown screen balls. Maybe 2! His deep middle game is 50/50 at best. And by 50/50 I mean there's only a 50% chance he'll see his guy WIDE OPEN in the endzone waving his hands. He throws so many hospital balls he should take out stock in an Ambulance company that services the stadiums. Finally, a sports writer interviewed BYU players over the last 3 seasons for stories. 20 players in all. He asked each one "Which of your teammates would you take with you to the NFL?". Every player had an answer, but not one player picked Zack Wilson. Not one. Big fat goose egg. Ouch! Maybe JD should pick someone else too. If so, who should he take?
Proof of that claim or you are just stirring shit from an unknown source on a random twitter or reddit account? That would be discussed to death if this claim was true. The only claim I found was the bad teammate comment a by unnamed souce that was rebuffed as not true and ridiculized by all of Zach own teammates at BYU. So much crap is out there on the internet.
Matt Waldman said that a scout or reporter (can’t remember) friend of his asked the 20 or so BYU players. Not sure where that would fall in the credibility spectrum. Anyway, cue in the Matt Waldman is a [insert favorite pejorative here].
