This draft is really deep at OL. I think there will be plenty of gems that fall in the 3rd and 4th round along with top end talent within the top 2 rounds. How many of these guys are day one starters? I’m tired of waiting 2 years for an offensive lineman to develop into an average lineman.
I don't know if I've ever heard of OL being referred to as "hot". I guess if you're into grossly overweight bodies, maybe that revs your engine. But I'm assuming you meant HOG not HOT mollies? In any case, that list shows there are lot of prospects that Douglas should be able to find a couple of good OL in.
8 of the first 11 picks would fit our blocking scheme. After Walker Little at #11, the only one who would fit who are any good are Cosmi and Hudson.
I think about 13 of them could be day one starters (Sewell, Slater, Darrisaw, Jenkins, Mayfield, Vera-Tucker, Humphrey, Dickerson [but Dickerson isn't a fit for our blocking scheme], Leatherwood, Little, Cosmi, Carman, & T. Smith (he isn't a scheme fit, either). Most of the rest aren't scheme fits. If we're going to get anyone that can help us this year, we're going to have to take him in the 1st or 2nd round.
This draft is super deep and yes not all suited for a wide zone blocking scheme but all have the potential to start somewhere. There is a very good possibility of some mid to late round gems like Cleveland, T Smith,Meyer, Hainsey and Newman that all could be impact starters. I’ve haven’t seen such a deep class since 2013
A lot of articles and gurus are saying Jenkins and Humphery are both on the Jets radar at 23 and 34. That would certainly make a statement.
I agree that it would make a statement, and Wilson, Jenkins and Humphrey is my ideal start to the draft. If those two OL are there at those picks, I don't think we'll see JD trade down before pick #66. If Jenkins isn't there at #23, then I could see JD either taking Humphrey there or trading down a few spots and then taking Humphrey, and then following with a CB pick. I don't think he'll risk missing out on both.
If Jenkins is there at 23 I just can’t see him passing on him. He’s literally a bit smaller version of Becton and played RT last year at an extremely high level.
The crazy thing is because it’s so deep if you miss out on them at 23/34 you can go get playmakers at 23/34 and add to starters to the OL on both our 3rd rounders. Trey Smith is really underrated same with Cleveland,Newman, Hainsey, Banks and Meyer. I’d honestly be perfectly fine addressing edge, corner and then double up on 2 of those guys.
You can ...... I think JD will get one of those two and if the other is off the board he’ll target another OL in the 3rd.
Trey Smith is NOT underrated. He struggles in pass protection and he doesn' fit our blocking scheme. Neither do any of the other OL you just mentioned. None of those guys would help our offense work the way it's intended to.
I have been saying that there's no way that JD would pass on Jenkins. He's rumored to be the Jets' favorite OL in the draft. He's a beast.
I keep reading & hearing that there is a major drop off in talent after the first 5 OL picks. Tucker ahead of Mayfield everywhere I look, so he would be a part of that top 5 that is supposed to be a class above. I really want that LB from ND but he keeps moving up the draft board and looks to be out of our reach.
