Lance did not always have huge talent advantages for the level of play. NDSU played quite a few FCS juggernauts that were even steven in terms of personnel.James Madison,Delaware U, Central Arkansas, South Dakota.. And while Jones/Fields faced overmatched opponents they also faced legit top 5 FBS opponents
Lance shoulda played in the spring. I understand why he didn't but if he was playing a season right now, he could skip all the pro day jazz and people would really respect him for it. And maybe he woulda found himself in the top 2 or 3
If Wilson was in that top tier of arm talent as he’s being advertised, he’s be my number 1 QB despite all of my concerns about size, injury, competition...etc. Being below that makes a huge difference for me. I don’t think he has the kind of arm talent that ordinarily allows you excuse those things.
Again, I have to give your POV a lot of weight. And while I don't disagree with your take, I still think Wilson just has that "intangible" that will make a big difference in the NFL. I never saw Darnold having this aspect, or any of the 2018 QBs - like you I didn't pay much attention the past two drafts because I didn't think we were looking for a QB. And while I agree that Fields might be able to use his legs to keep drives alive and defenses honest, I see Wilson doing the same but with his arm more than his legs - although he's a damn good runner which most anti-Wilsoners completely discount. This is why I'll be happy with either, even if I do prefer Zach.
In retrospect you are right but look at it from his perspective.. He was already being considered a top 10 pick despite the limited sample size. His stock was only gonna go so much higher. Covid season is & was not regular season..alot of unknowns & potential craziness. He likely stood to lose more than the risk was worth
I think Darnold had/has the intangibles. I just thought his heart wrote checks that his arm talent and footwork could not cash in the NFL. Remember he too was getting the Rodgers comparisons coming out.
true but FCS is the only game on TV. Such a unique opportunity. He'd be the top story on Sportscenter every week. Imagine he had a couple 4TD games, he could've found himself right up there with Lawrence
I agree with your last point...It’s fun to debate and make our cases but ultimately we all want JD to pick the right guy. I think you can’t go wrong with either player, others may disagree, but both are great prospects to me.
No. In what world do you think that the black swarm had better talent on the field than BYU? Houston? Sigh. BYU was ranked In the top 15 In offensive and defensive metrics. Those teams didn't come close to that. I find It interesting as well that your hypothetical of Fields and Wilson, along with your hypothetical conclusion. Considering that that scenario did play out for Zach Wilson with another QB coming In for him, he did just fine running that offense. It's even more fascinating considering Zach Wilson wasn't even a lock to start. ..but The narrative now Is that BYU wouldn't have been better than .500 without him. Okie Doke?
The cupcake edition. Yeah. Can't really use that considering he was fortunately healthy for the whole year. Which Is a positive for me.
