He has been consistently one of the best Defensive players in the league for his entire career and has 100 sacks he also has 6 INT and a very good Tackle number for a DE. In the era of Steriods the fact that he plays in the mid 250's is also going to garner him some votes. Howie Long is in with 84 sacks and if you add in the year they didn't count them it's about 90 sacks. He is right there with guys like Richard Dent who is also likely to go in at some point. He has only had 2 relatively week sack years in his carreer and he blows away guys Like Richard Seymour and Willie McGinist in stats guys who will also get serious HOF consideration when they retire.
Long is a bad comparison, he played end and nose tackle in a 3-4. When they ran a 4-3, he usually shifted down to tackle. Similar story for Seymour. A better comparison for Taylor would be guys like Charles Haley or Greg Townsend, to name two. Having said that, I have no problem with what he said. I don't see it as a guy posturing for an award. If I were in Taylor's shoes, playing my whole career at around 250 pounds, I'd feel the same way. You know Jason Taylor had to be under some pressure to do 'roids, especially early in his career.
Dent has a SB MVP and played on maybe the best D EVER, Taylor doesn't have any major awards and has been the leader of one of the worst playoff D's ever. He's a very, very good player just not great and I think you have to be great to make it. They let in alot of undeserving players so there's a chance he makes it down the road but he shouldn't.
You think this has anything to do with the fact that Shawn Merriman fired Gary Wichard as his agent who is currently Jason Taylor's agent?
I don't think it has anything to do w/ that. I think it 100% has to do w/ Taylor wanting the DPOY award.
BINGO!!! If Jason Taylor wants to be taken seriously, he needs to shut his trap and then talk about the things that really bother him on occasion instead of running to the press every time he gets a diaper rash.

I totally agree with him. It look horrible that he's the one making the claim becuase he' also running for DPOY and now it just looks like he's begging for votes. I don't like Lights Out anymore and don't think he should get the award. Let's put Marc Maguire(sp?) in the HOF while we're at it.
