We're almost certainly not getting a shot at Lawrence, but you never know, stranger things have happened. So what if the Jags take Wilson (or Fields), and Lawrence is there for the taking? Slam dunk? Douglas trips all over himself as he (virtually) runs to the podium to shout "Lawrence!"? Is TL REALLY the best QB prospect available? There has been a LOT said in favor and against both Wilson and Fields, and a few guys like Lance or Jones better, but if the Jets had a shot to get Lawrence, would that erase all doubt and argument? For me, after watching all the tape I could get showing Lawrence, Fields, Wilson, and listening and reading evaluations of these guys, I think Wilson is the best prospect, and if all three were available, that's who I would pick. What say you? Note: I'm including a poll: If Lawrence is available do you take him over your current #1 choice? I understand that if Lawrence IS available, that means the Jags probably have taken Wilson or Fields and so you couldn't choose them even if you wanted to, but I'm trying to see how people really view these QBs. Are Wilson, Fields, Lance, et. al. just "consolation prizes that you're trying to be happy about, or are they actually the FQB you really want? And I'm not going to ask, if you wouldn't take Lawrence who would you take since we've beaten that horse to death, resurrected it, and beaten it to death again.
I think the odds that Lawrence is the best are less than 50% but higher than those for any of the other quarterbacks.
If Lawrence is there at 2 you have to take him. His floor is very high and he is definitely a guy you could win a superbowl with.
Not a college QB expert so I said Not Sure but all talking heads say the same thing. @legler82 chime in please. P.S. Will keep this thread here for a while and than will move to Draft Forum.
Wilson is the best QB for our system. The only thing TL has over ZW is he is about 3 inches taller, however ZW still out weighs TL by 5-10 lbs. I've watched allot of tape of ZW & I can't imagine a better skillset for our system. Strong arm, accurate, mobile, throws with anticipation & he has played in a similar system in college. Oh & he's only 21 years old. Sign me up!!
Zach Wilson beats him in anticipation, ball placement, off-platform mechanics, pocket awareness, and poise. Lance has a better blend of arm talent/ athleticism and Lawrence is a tools based prospect. A year or two from now people are going to wonder how they were sold this hype on Tlaw.
No, Zach will be considered a king in NY once Jets start winning. He's got the swagger and the skills.
Coaches come and go and that goes double in NY. To draft a QB because of a system is a really dumb thing to do. And again that goes double when talking about this particular system. Shanahan’s system elevates the play of ALL QB types from Shaub to Elway and everything in between. Literally EVERY QB is a “fit” (air quotes). That’s why a guy like fucking Mac Jones has as much a chance of being drafted by Shanahan as Fields/Lance who are the complete opposites. IMO you should draft who you feel is the most talented and have the highest upside. Essentially the guy that DOESN’T need “the system” to be successful because the system has already proven it doesn’t need a specific type of QB.
He’s the best QB prospect I’ve ever evaluated if you look at his collegiate career as a whole and he’s just going to fill out and get stronger. His John Elway 2.0 in so many ways and John was the best prospect of all time. I think Lawrence is right there with Elway and Luck.
I don’t have him in that stratosphere because I don’t see that kind of arm. I see him more as an athletic Peyton but I have no idea if he has that beautiful mind thing Peyton had for football. If he does, then the league is in trouble.
Well the good news is that Wilson is not only the perfect fit for the Jets system now but probably is the prospect that is least scheme dependent (Lance might get there too). Lawrence and Fields I am very concerned on landing spot for how they look early with Lawrence already in a bad scheme fit (Meyer/Bevell). Fields my best guess for ideal scheme fit would be Philly/New England.
If Andrew Luck were coming out right now from Stanford with Trevor, I'd take Luck. Trevor is #1 in this class though at this point
