draft is a crap shoot. if wilson turns out good and we and get 2 starters out of our other 4 picks i'd call it a win
You can call it a win but with early picks like that and all of these holes JD should be able to find two starters aside from Wilson. Even if at first if the average fan doesn’t agree with the position targeted as long as those players develop it’ll be good over time. Now the third round.....that’s a trickier proposition.....
Gase had a deal with Gore that he would play him till he hit 16000 yards. After he got 16000 yards week 16, he didn't play week 17.
you just never know. many 2nd rounders are busts even 1st rounders. you can't expect to hit on every one. that's why having extra picks are great i'd want at least a half hit rate on the other 4 picks we have in rounds 1-3
I think that every time the franchise is rebooting itself with new FO personnel, this thread should be bumped and the year should be changed to whatever the current year is.
Good one byz. But this time, I am just extra optimistic. Something feels right overall. Joe D is the man. Saleh is the man. If we can develop the QB right, good days will be upon us finally.
The Jets are picking second this year. That means the 2nd round pick is only two picks removed from the first round. So, in essence the Jets have three first round picks. Again, the first 3rd round pick is only two picks removed from the second round. Therefore, I look at it as the Jets having three 1st round picks and one 2nd round pick and one 3rd round pick among the first 5 picks. Given the Jets lack of roster talent, I expect those 5 to be immediate starters. Pick #2 overall, which will probably be Wilson, must be a transformative player. Anything less than that will be a disappointment.
All I've been hearing on this site for the last three months is what a great GM JD is (only one year on the job with a 2-14 record) and what a great coach Saleh is (hasn't coached a game yet.) I'm tired of hearing the hype. If they're any good they should hit on those 5 picks. It shouldn't be too hard in this draft.
I'm not saying they have to be all-pros, but solid contributors.....yes. For example, if he drafts an RB in the first 3 rounds I wouldn't necessarily expect that guy to start, but he should be good enough to contribute offensively consistently. If he drafts a Darron Lee (a bust) at 23, then why is he any better than Maccagnan? Given the talent in this draft and the Jets forward skewed draft positions, they should be able to do that without too much trouble. The only position I would cut him some slack on is EDGE. That's hard to predict. QB is too, but in this case, he has to get it right, given the draft position, the available options and the cutting of Darnold.
