It’s not like Wilson was playing on Clemson or Alabama while lighting up and bullying undermatched opponents like UTSA and Navy.

He played on BYU. He was surrounded by non-blue chip talent on his team as well. The playing field was even.

You can make a legit argument that both Fields and Trevor Lawrence had bigger talent gaps with “their teams vs. their opponents” than Zach did with his team and his opponents.

The argument of “played weak opponents” holds no weight as his teammates were equal to the talent he was playing.

It helps when you are playing against COVID cupcakes.

You really can't make that argument considering BYU recruits similar to the Pac-12 teams they play every year in normal years. The playing fields are equal. They didn't step on the field once with an inferior roster. Ohio State did at least once and arguably twice depending on what you felt about Clemson.

That’s BS. The average age of his o-line was like 26 and his game film is riddled w/ tall BYU WRs Mossing overmatched CBs. I’m not a guy that normally uses the level of competition in a prospect debate but for Zach is glaring. He can still become Mahomes and Rodgers like some of his fans believe but the comp issue is real particularly when he’s being considered for the 2nd overall pick.

Yeah I was just going to add that too. They have an extremely important added benefit in that they end up with mid 20's juniors all the time because of the missions. And a strange hold on any talent that comes out of the LDS community along with being one of maybe 20 schools that gets prospects from American Samoa and all pacific islands.

It's not like they're UTSA trying to compete with the Texas universities for the same two and three star recruits to play special teams at P5 programs.

Great find. Damn he went in on Hurts. I’m sure this video was some pro Wilson thing but I came away more surprised at his Hurts take. I actually thought Hurts was not an NFL QB at Alabama. However, he showed great improvement in Oklahoma and changed my mind. The only other guy to have done that was Dak Prescott. The improvement he made from his junior to senior year was stark. I’d be curious to know what Simms thought of Dak coming out.

PFF grades are supposed to take that into account.

Their system is not perfect, I look at it more as cleaned up version of regular stats as they look at receiver drops, INT worthy plays, etc... I am not sure they account for strength of schedule, strength of your own team, etc... But, I don't think it sucks to finish as a top ever passer there with the best deep ball, clean pocket, play action, red zone, lowest TO worthy passes, and best drop back passing grades in the class.

I agree, I wish had faced a better competition, and we do have to put this in the negative column. O-Line was pretty dominant - really like in the case of Fields most of the time too. But the fact BYU players are older is because of the missions they go on. Not much football practice there. It does not mean they are better. I already showed before that their defensive ratings stayed pretty steady compared to years past even though they faced weaker competition. Offense is one that blew up. Also, they played against some of the same teams as years before and did significantly better against them. That's why yes, I do acknowledge that competition was weaker, but there were enough of comparable teams, where to me it does not become a red flag.

Fields - Just easier for me to picture him being a star in the NFL. Like them both a lot but Fields game against Clemson in the playoffs was unreal. Can’t get that game out of my head when I decide between the two.

This 100x over. The competition thing is a much bigger factor for other positions like defensive end or cornerback where it's a legitimate 1 on 1 situation. As a dropback quarterback, you have to rely on the people around you beating the people across from them. Doesn't matter if the team you're playing doesn't have NFL talent if you're receivers aren't getting any separation. A tight window is a tight window.

You okay? You do realize you didn't even use images that highlight what separates most QBs throwing motion, right?

You want that "L" position from high level QB play. That's proper technique. Even from Tebow. You should see that from any QB In the NFL.

With Tebow, his off arm should be tighter. Like, Fields. Tebow had a tendency of getting much to high on his bend as well from his throwing arm.

This literally doesn't prove anything and they certainly do not have the same throwing motion.

I voted other. I'd probably pick Fields because I like so much about him (size, athleticism, speed, arm strength, performance, and competitiveness), but I've got absolutely problem with Douglas picking Wilson because I'm not informed enough to be adamant and I trust Joe at this point.

Other: whatever the f*ck Douglas wants to do.

I’m listening to a Jets pod w/ 4 draftniks I respect. They all have Fields as their 2nd QB. I officially don’t feel crazy anymore. I’m at peace now with whatever the Jets do knowing it’s not just me that don’t get it.
