That isn't true though is it. It certainly is for a pile of cash in real life but certainly not between talent levels in the NFL, I mean it just isn't the same comparison in the slightest. I wish Sam well and hope he is successful in Carolina. If that costs us compensation draft position then so be it. The Jets let him down horribly with poor talent and shocking offensive coaching from which he may not recover and will take us some time to unpick. If anyone pays a price I hope Gase doesn’t get another pro / college job in football.

Great question, I would have to answer no, one has nothing to do with the other. Joe admitted the only way they would have kept Sam was their draft position. If they were lower on the draft board they would have kept him. His plan was to draft another QB and reset the time on the QB position.
I thought it was a possibility early that Meyer would flip flop and take Wilson or Fields but he has shown zero interest in taking any QB but Lawrence so I don't think it is anymore unless some video comes out with Lawrence exposing himself to a teenager online or something. As far as changing the eval of the Darnold trade, it was kind of like when the Jets traded up to #3, and then the Browns did the unthinkable and took Baker. All of a sudden the Jets were lauded as geniuses instead of a team without a clear plan that just lucked into the perceived best QB in the draft.
He doesn't. But drafting 'good guys' will only get us so far. Passing on super talented players b/c the dude was never a captain and seems entitled (OBJ, Revis, many others) could bite us down the road. I get we don't want a locker room full of devas, but let's face it, some of the best players in the league are devas. And passing them all over for blue collar lunch pail guys might not be the best plan.
Or if the talent level at certain positions is significantly higher in 2022 and further validated thru a no shit combine then the value of a second pick is actually higher, particularly if the third rounder this year does not see significant playing time.
