Just curious...was Gase correct in wanting a stable of backs vs a bell-cow? Is this what we're trying for now? A stable?
jimmy g is bad and took them to a SB. it's a very QB friendly system. I have faith they can mold wilson into a great QB. he has all the tools and natural talent to be a great QB. As far as moster goes he was a scrub bounced around the league then a 4th string RB behind wilson jr, coleman, and brieda. then he emerged in the system. Now he's a good starting RB but they will still have him RBBC. The niners were his 7th team in 2 years 2 of the 7 teams only had him on the PS or offseason roster before final cuts.
nothing wrong with wanting somehting. but a good coach uses what he has. we signed bell before gase and gase came in and instantly shit on the prized new FA. gase was a stubborn dick who wasn't even 10% as smart as he thought he was. he also ran the hell out of gore instead of using adams and johnson. he didn't want a stable. he wanted gore for whatever unknown reason
I don’t think you get what I’m saying... it’s about the development of Wilson.. if you have Alvin Kamara who are you going to zero in on as a defence? Kamara obviously. If you have RBBC who are you going to zero in on? The QB! It’s that simple... plus when you have a 3 down back it gives everyone on the offence more confidence including ur rookie QB. To me it’s insane to take a guard over a RB with a small school rookie qb
seems like that was the case yeah having CMC sure helped all the Qbs in carolina so far. QBs are football players too. our RBBC will be fine. we gave him Wrs to throw to. the o-line is imporved. herndon should bounce back. we can draft a RB late. bell cow RBs aren't that much of a thing right now. you know how many RBs had 300+ carries? 2 henry and cook. thats it. kamara had 187 same as gore. his backup had 147.
Yes, evidently so. Following is a list of starting RBs for Mike Shanahan from 1995-2008 (his tenure with the Broncos). Not a single one was taken in the 1st round. Not a single RB was considered a "stud" or was drafted in the 1st round. Denver Broncos - 1995 - 2008 Terrell Davis - 6th round pick Olandis Gary - 4th round pick Mike Anderson - 6th round pick Clinton Portis - 2nd round pick Reuben Droughns - 3rd round pick by the Lions Tatum Bell - 2nd round pick Mike Bell - UDFA Travis Henry - FA, was a 2nd round pick of the Bills Selvin Young - UDFA Michael Pittman - FA, 4th round pick by the Cardinals Andre Hall - UDFA TB, signed as a FA Ryan Torain - 5th round pick Peyton Hillis - 7th round pick Washington Redskins 2010-2013 (Mike Shanahan's tenure) Roy Helu - 4th round in 2011 Evan Royster - 6th round in 2011 Alfred Morris - 6th round in 2012 Chris Thompson - 5th round in 2013 So 17 RBs were drafted during Shanahan's career at Denver and Washington. With Denver, there were 3 RBs taken in the 2nd round, but there were three who were taking in the 5th-7th rounds and two UDFAs. With Washington, the earliest was in the 4th round.
Well let’s hope JD can draft a stud RB in the later rounds.. not an easy fate. Wilson needs a really good RB in the backfield with him. It will help his development tremendously. I really can’t stress that enough. Defences that don’t fear the run game is a HUGE problem for a rookie QB from a small school that hasn’t played with or against stiff competition. The RB does sooo much to help a QB. Just look at the 2 first seeds in the AFC/NFC last year GB and KC. KC drafted CEH in the first to help Mahomes and GB had Aaron Jones and drafted AJ Dillon in the 2nd round. Tampa had Fournette and drafted RJ in the 2nd round, Saints have Kamara they drafted in the 3rd. All those teams have awesome QBs but valued the RB position to take the heat off the QB and keep the D guessing. It’s so important and yes MAYBE we can get lucky and hit on one in the later rounds BUT if we get the chance at 23/34/66 to take a top of the class prospect at a massive need it will really help in Wilson’s development because it looks like we are starting him day 1. Just imagine we don’t take Harris/Etienne/Surmon and defences just zero in on Wilson.... not good.
Only Fournette and Edwards Helaire were 1st rounders and the latter came to a team that was already stacked offensively.
C’mon man you know I know this... the point is a good run game takes the heat off your QB and for a rookie coming from a school that played nobody he needs to be able to lean on a good ground game. Bottom line.
With a zone running scheme it takes a certain type of back, not one you need to waste draft capital on. 3rd/4th round is the sweet spot for a RB IMO.
You can also implement that with the profile that's often adhered to with the Shanahan offense. The types of backs they end up featuring are usually the backs on most teams that are relegated to shifty change of pace reps from the primary share of reps with a feature back. The Jets could probably find a starter in the 5th round.
I guess if the D is going to zero in on our QB, we’re going to be the best running team in the league. Lol If you look at the 49ers roster, they arguably have the best O-line in the league. No one would argue they have the best RB in the league.
Good work! I'm reading, though, that both Sherwood and Nasirildeen will be used more as linebackers than safeties in our new 4-3. Your 2021 New York Jets Draft Class - Gang Green Nation
If the Jets have a great running game, it won’t matter that they won’t have one rb to focus on - they’ll still have to focus on the strong running game. This isn’t 1997. Bellcow backs are few and far between.
