Eli was quiet too, threw way too many picks but won 2 Super Bowls. What Sam really needed was someone to catch a ball against their helmet in a big game. I'm shocked they couldn't find such a player. ; )
siefert nails it imho "t's hard to view the deal as anything more than a potential incremental upgrade for the Panthers, though. By most statistical measures, including QBR, Darnold has been one of the NFL's worst quarterbacks since 2018. Maybe he gets better with Carolina coach Matt Rhule, but three seasons is usually long enough to find out whether a potential superstar is budding."
Marcus Maye responded to the announcement on Twitter with a facepalm emoji and Mechi Becton retweeted it. Sam apparently hadn't lost the faith of his teammates as some have speculated. I wish him well. He could thrive in Charlotte where the media pressure is about 1/100 of New York.
There are reports they are picking up his option. That's 18-20 mil next year. Spent 2nd rounder, 4th, and 6th. He needs to outperform Teddy in order for this to pay off. Not impossible, but there is a long road ahead.
Has Fitterer contacted the Darnolds to tell them he would make sure their boy would be taken good care of?
Or controversially draft the best right tackle in the draft instead Slater gaining picks in a trade back at the same time. Spending the #2 on a player that won't have played for nearly 2 years come September is a huge risk. It could be the same for Slater tbh I have not checked that out yet
On reading that the panthers are activating the 5th year option on Darnold, well it seems I was flat out wrong. I guess they have to protect their draft picks they traded away for him and not risk a one and out season but I still can't understand why a new deal can't be discussed, for that money they could have tacked another year on at least. Still good luck Sam and remember i aint afraid of no ghost, because bustin' makes me feel good.
First time posting in over 15 years: Sam Darnold has the lowest QBR in all the NFL for any QB with a minimum number of starts since he entered the league. Now, it’s easy to say, “Sure, but he had an awful offensive line and few weapons.” While both true, he also has the lowest QBR in the entire NFL since 2018 “from a clean pocket.” His “clean pocket QBR” since he entered the NFL is 58. That is atrocious! That means that even when his offensive line did not fail him, and he had clean passing lanes, he was still the worst starting QB in the NFL since 2018. Enough excuses for him. He failed and we got a return for him. Good luck to him! I wish him success. He seems like a good kid. But a good QB he was not.
I didn’t expect that we’d get a second rounder for him. Well done JD. Now whoever you take better outperform him for the next 15 years.
That wouldn't be as bad as Sam losing a QB competition to Bridgewater after the Panthers traded 3 picks and picked up his option
He is taken good care of.... in a new city with less pressure and a better supporting cast... what more can you ask?
Good luck Sam..... seemed like a good dude, and that last month of his rookie season made the future look bright. Was it a flash in the pan, or did he get Gased and Confused? Remains to be seen.....
Somebody needs to Hear this: JD didn't do anything here. Acting like he made wine out of water. If anything, this shows it's EXACTLY what some have been saying. JD Is a Yes man. Period. We've been down this road. This team will be a bunch of draft picks for the next few years and the ones that become good will be gone when it's time to pay. The JETS hit the reset button AGAIN because it's the cheaper option. Of course... They did. Don't worry, we'll do it again in another 4 years.
