I wouldn't say crowder is gone for sure. he'll be 29 for 2022 and we could bring him back for a year or 2 as a stop gap. cole will likely be gone for 2022. but we'll have money and have a ton of picks next year as well. an extra 1st, no 4th or 7th, but 5 picks in rounds 5 and 6. so 4 premium picks and 5 late rounders plus money to spend. mims and davis will be here for the next few years at least and we'll have plenty of chances to add depth for the future. it's not an immediate need. I would grab a late round one though like in the 5th or 6th. guys like eskridge, shi smith, warren jackson, etc could be had there to develop. I agree on OG not being a pick at 23 but at 34 Would be a good choice. we need a QB of the defense though to build around. it's the 1st year for saleh and company. drafting your QB of the offense and QB of the defense to build around makes a ton of sense with your 2 1st round picks. next year we have 2 as well plus our 2nd and 3rd. then 5 picks total in rounds 5 and 6 to fill out the roster. not to mention money to spend in FA next year as well.
Yeah that's kind of where I fall as I think 23 could be a good spot to move down. This is where the Patriots used to peg as the best value spot to move down and accumulate picks when they were drafting well in the mid 2000's/early 2010's.
I'm thinking to address the secondary late this year. have a group of late round young hungry guys. see who excels and use a top pick next year on one. between rounds 4-6 (4 picks) we could grab wiggins(S), wildgoose(CB), Thomas Graham Jr (CB) and a WR (jackson or eskridge) that gives us a secondary of maye, joyner, davis, wiggins at safety and Bless, Hall, Guidry, wildgoose, graham, and jackson at CB. with a good front 7 and a zone heavy scheme we should be ok and can see who can excel and who needs to be replaced. that gives us 5 premium picks (2 1sts, 2nd, 2 3rds) to focus on the LBer group, QB (obviously at #2OA), and O-line.
for people wanting a WR this year high. remember next offseason we will still have davis and mims and around 70ish million to spend plus 2 1st rounders, a 2nd, and a 3rd for premium picks. top FA WRs include allen robinson, juju smith schuster, chris godwin, devante adams, ty hilton, alshon jeffrey, robby anderson, will fuller, jameson crowder, sammy watkins, dj moore, calvin ridley, tim patrick, courtland sutton, christian kirk, DJ Chark, to name a few. obviouslly all won't shake free but we could sign 1 for sure to go with mims and davis and draft one with one of our top 4 picks as well. we have a lot of flexability. WR, CB, O-line with 3 of our top 4 picks next year.
The cornerback class is equally as good if you're using that as a justification for passing over a position in the draft this year. And it's going to dwindle down as players sign extensions, get tagged, etc. If you're looking to draft a quarterback, which I imagine we will at 2, it's best to get him a receiver to grow in the league with even if they're both playing catch on the sidelines for a year. I think that can be done in the middle rounds but I wouldn't be upset if we took one at 23/34. It's not always about plugging holes as it is finding quality players you can give a second contract to. Receiver and corner are both positions where the shelf live runs out pretty quickly when they head towards 30 so you can maximize your return by drafting and paying them on cheap rookie deals for four years.
he'll have davis and mims for his 1st 3 years at least to grow with. maybe crowder for a few years too but at least in 2021 along with cole.
we already had an ASJ and it didn't work lol. But kidding aside I like him a lot for our system and he's likely to be there with our 2nd round pick. he's a fringe 1st rounder. salehs system though relies more on the front 7 then the back 4
It's funny when I was typing it out I was thinking the same thing lol. If Samuel Jr. was two inches taller he might be CB1 in this draft.
if Jaylen Waddle falls i think he would be tough to pass up ... an elite talent that fell due to injury he would stretch the field in a way that none of our current receivers do and provide a a home run threat to the punt return unit, as well its beyond time to make the offense a serious threat
I like Kwitty Paye guy is a beast and no team could double him, Lawson, and Curry. 2nd choice would Etienne. We cannot go into day 1 with Perrine and Coleman
We did not as of yet, address the Oline and CB in Free Agency. There are still some guys, especially at Oline, that could still be signed to improve the team. Free Agency at CB is VERY THIN. As such, I think Jets will take best available CB at #23, unless there has been a big run on them(4-5 taken before #23). Then, with early pick in rd 2, I think they take either G- W. Davis or T/G Vera-Tucker. We need to address both areas with early picks.
I would love to draft a guy like Jaycee Horn, seems like he will be gone. Anyways, we need to surround this 2nd pick with talent. We can't make the same mistakes with Sam. Even if a LB like the ND kid is there, etc. It's going to be the same story, new QB if 2-23/34 is not QB at 2...WR/RB/OL for those two other picks.
I could see grabbing an elite CB if one is there, but OL is still the biggest need. Then maybe a TE or WR. These are my preferences, but again, I'm still trusting of JD at this point.
