With free Agency pretty close to being finished and the draft approaching this is my first round mock 2.0. I made my mock based on what I feel will happen with a combination of best player available and team needs. Jaguars- Trevor Lawrence QB - No brainer pick. One of the best prospects I’ve ever seen. Jets - Zach Wilson QB - Jets roll the dice with the live arm BYU quarterback with huge potential. *Trade* - 49ers - Justin Fields QB - They keep Jimmy and ease Fields into the NFL Falcons- Kyle Pitts TE - Gives Atlanta a Tony Gonzales threat once again. Bengals - Jamaar Chase WR - Everyone thinks it will be Sewell but Burrow bangs the table for Chase and they give it to him. *Trade* Dolphins- Davonte Smith WR - Fine get familiar help for Tua. Lions - Micah Parsons LB - first defensive player off the board giving the Lions their QB on D. Panthers - Penei Sewell OT - Carolina wanted to make a splash at QB but instead the take the BPA and build brick by brick. Broncos - Patrick Surtain CB - Denver adds to their secondary with the best DB in the draft. Cowboys - Rashawn Slater OT - Dallas bolsters their depleted OL. Giants - Gregory Rousseau EDGE - Athletic freak and possibly the steal of the draft. Eagles - Jaylen Waddle WR - Eagles add the deep threat they are missing. *Trade* Patriots - Trey Lance QB - Let Lance develop behind Newton for a year. Vikings- Kwity Paye EDGE - They grab some help for Hunter on the line. *Trade* Chargers - Caleb Farley CB - They need immediate help in their secondary. Cardinals- Jaycee Horn CB - Peterson is a FA and they need to fill that gaping hole with a nice prospect. Raiders -Christian Darrisaw OT - Chuckie continues to rebuild his OL and adds a nice tackle to their depleted OL. Dolphins- Jaelen Phillips EDGE - A kid from their own back yard to bolster their DL. Football Team - Mac Jones QB - He would be a perfect student under Fitz for a year. Bears -Ronnie Perkins EDGE- Pair him up with Mack. Colts - Joe Tryon EDGE- Colts need a pass rush. Titans - Jeremiah Owusu LB - Add a LB to their D. Jets - Najee Harris RB - Jets need a star running back to take pressure of their new QB. In a Mike LaFluer offence a bell cow is a key asset. Steelers - Landon Dickerson C - Pouncy retired LD can step in day 1. Jaguars - Jaylen Mayfield OT - Protect TL at all cost. Browns - Azeez Ojulari EDGE- Browns add more pass rushers to take some double teams off Garrett. Ravens - Nick Bolton LB - They add to their line backers room. Saints -Alijah Vera-Tucker G - Their interior line needs help. Packers - Kadarius Toney WR - They need speed and quickness at the WR position. Bills - Greg Newsome CB - Add a stud with White in their secondary. Chiefs - Tevin Jenkins OT - Protect PM at all cost. Bucs - Carlos Basham DL - Plug another prospect on the DL to get to the QB. Jets 2nd round - Tyson Campbell CB - A raw talent with excellent ball skills, long corner, with athleticism, decent speed, will match up on big receivers and give them problems especially in the red zone. 3rd round - Thomas Booker EDGE - Played well for Stanford all year. Definitely a boom or bust pick but has high upside with his physical attributes and football IQ. Could be the steal of the draft if it all comes together for him. 3rd round (Sea) - Rondale Moore WR - Explosive playmaker with unbelievable athleticism and speed. Plays inside and out and has the speed to take the top off the D. 4th round - Royce Newman G - I love this kid from Ole Miss. He’s big, nasty, can pass protect and run block at a high level. He’s played both RT and guard. 5th round - Trea Berry TE - Big (6’7”)Tight end with athleticism and ability catching the football. Boom or Bust pick but worth the risk. 5th round (NYG) - Marcus Murphy S - small school kid with huge upside. Smooth and athletic player with good speed. 6th round - Tre Nixon WR - He missed some time this year with injuries but has big time upside.
Id want OL earlier than 4th. Not sure about RB in the 1st also. Id be like a C or lower for me. We can't afford multiple boom or bust picks as you describe them.
I doubt very much that the bengals pass Sewell for a wr also doubt the dolphins take a wr that high. Flores is a beli disciple , he saw them win chips with mediocre wide outs. Wouldn’t be surprised if slater was the pick for the fish but my betting favorite would be surtain.
Concerned about Campbell's "decent speed". His size is ideal but those smurf types WR might give him problems. I think the Jets need some playmakers in the secondary a lockdown type that can get you that interception at crunch time.
Not bad overall. my main gripe is harris in the 1st. we shouldn't draft a RB and the shannahan offense doesn't require or even prefer a bell cow. they like a group of RBs so they are always fresh and prefer a RBBC without a star. same thing with WRs. a bunch of solid guys without a star. I think outside of QB at 2 our next 2 picks should be 2 of the 3 positions. LBer, O-line, CB. Depending how the draft falls. I think LBer is a bigger need. we need someone to be the QB of the defense and build around. after that CB or o-line for our 2nd rounder. guys like wyatt davis or campbell should be there with that pick. Also worth nothing no way moore is around that late. he's a late 1st early 2nd maybe fall to the back of the 2nd. he won't be there in round 3 though. I don't think we draft a WR early. we are 4 deep right now with cole, davis, mims, and crowder and very likely next year the top 3 stay and we have plenty of picks. In the 4th round I'd take wiggins over murphy for safety easily. I'd also take long over berry at TE
I hope OG is prioritized earlier in the draft, especially in this scenario with Alija Vera-Tucker on the board at 23. I also think they'll add an OLB if they don't sign somebody else.
wyatt davis in the 2nd would be perfect. cosmi, jenkins, AVT, and leatherwood could all be there at pick 34 as well. plenty of o-line options to take one in the 2nd but not many LBers as good as collins or JOK. and we need a QB of the defense. taking a QB of the offense and QB of the defense in the 1st makes the most sense to me. 2 players to build each side around
Mike Shanahan has literally said in his offence he prefers a bell cow. In SF they did it by committee that’s true however if you look at other places he’s been it’s usually a bell cow back. Atlanta with Freeman, Washington with Morris, Denver with TD. Harris is going to be a stud and when you have the same guy back there your chemistry grows and therefore chemistry develops. A elite 3 down back is probably the best thing for a rookie QB.
ATL had freeman and coleman. Then SF signed coleman to go with mckinnin, brieda, and mostert. Denver doesn't count. TD was too good to bench and it was over a decade ago. as of late he prefers RBBC to keep them all fresh and have fresh RBs go against a worn down D Here is a good breakdown: https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/does-shanahan-rb-commitment-issues-071336760.html Besides that remember it's the same system but not the same coach. Laflaur is gonna have his own opinions on how things should be done. he even has coleman now and likely installs the system the way it was ran in SF the past 2 years
Laflaur will definitely have his own style I agree there. His brother has Henry and Aaron Jones both bell cows too. I hate passing on guys that I’m certain will be pro bowl players and I just feel if he’s there at 23 it would be a mistake not taking a guy who is going to move the sticks, be a familiar recipient of the football for a rookie qb and can catch the ball on check downs.
really? cause adams was an all pro and pro bowler at safety and everyone said he was a mistake and we should have passed on him because LOL safety. Rbs aren't worth taking that high really. not when you have 100 holes and you have a HC and OC who made the superbowl several times with RBBC and none getting 1k yards. it's a wasted pick. we could get someone in the mid rounds to handle some carries. there isa good chance the jets don't have a 1k RB but 3 guys with 700-800 yards this year. aaron jones and henry run different offenses though. henry is in a run 1st to set up passes. jones is in a west coast style that runs through rodgers and has rodgers lol. we'll have a rookie QB in a timing based balanced system
Not a fan of this draft. I love Wilson of course, and also Najee Harris, but the latter would be a luxury. RB needs to wait at least until the 3rd round, if not the 4th or 5th. I don't like the #34 and #66 picks at all. That's making the same mistake Mac made drafting D instead of OL. I like Campbell and Moore, but that's it for the rest of the draft. IMO the pick at #23 has to be OL, and #34 should be OL as well. Nothing is more important than keeping Wilson or Fields upright and healthy. CB and DE can totally wait.
OL isn't as big of a priority to JD as it is to fans. he likes lewis, fant, mcgovern, and becton. there is really 1 kinda hole in JDs mind which is RG. GVR and clark can battle for it. we have 4 picks in the top 2 rounds next year. I'd like to take OL in the 2nd but be prepared for a defense heavy draft. players that fit the new scheme.
