Since the 2nd has been discussed to death and pretty much came up as a split between fields and wilson and not going anywhere else at this point. How about discuss options for the 23rd pick. Here are a few I like 1) Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah LBer a 3 down Lber perfect for salehs system. could use a little extra weight but he's fast, high motor and can play zone and shoot gaps. just isn't good at disengaging blocks yet at least but for a 4-3 system like saleh runs the MLB is the QB of the D and needs sideline to sideline speed and JOK has that 2) Zaven Collins OLB not as versatile as JOK in salehs D as a LBer but versatile enough he could play SAM in a base defense and drop in as an edge rusher in Nickel and Dime packages. plays well in space and dropping in zone. probably would fit better as a 3-4 OLB but very talented and saleh could make use of it and Lber is a big need
We need o line first then cb, depending on who we can get the 23rd has to go to one of those two positions. Maybe is someome falls into our lap we pick a wr there. We have enough bodies at linebacker as is, even without mosely.
I think JOK starts at WILL rookie year then moves to MIKE. he isn't built for SAM. If it's collins I think he starts at SAM and plays there his career as well as sliding into DE for 3rd down dime packages I think we can get a good o-line/CB with our 2nd and 3rd rounders. it's a deep draft at both. O-line isn't as important as we are making it. and we can get an o-lineman next year. we have our starters in place right now for 2021. we don't really have starts at CB that are proven.
no WR. we are 4 deep. and no we don't have bodies at LBer. right now the starters are Cashman (oft injured 5th rounder from a few years ago), Mosley (hasn't played in 2 years and never played in a 4-3), Davis (1 year contract free agent who was a former 1st round bust) depth is noah dawkins (3 teams in 2 years. was on jets PS last year, never seen the field), and Del’Shawn Phillips (3 teams in 3 years PS player) in short not looking good. front 7 is very important for salehs defense. Lber is our weakest group by far currently.
I like the LB/OG combination at 23/34, only because I think Collins solidifies the position for ten years. I like Leatherwood for a year at guard and then kicking out to RT when Fant moves on. He has experience at both. I like Toney at 23/34 as well. There are a loooot of players at positions we need in the 23-60 range. A trade down to pickup an extra second would be clutch. There are a lot to good guards and receivers in the second round that we could use.
I think this is what we need to do. I heard Creed Humphrey thrown around, but he is mainly a Center. CB is harder to find... I also saw a mock with the UCLA kid I like
IMHO Always BPA first After that... If it's a tie the offense needs the first 3-4 picks of the draft so they can either protect whoever they have at QB this year or have the pieces in place to support whoever ends up back there. they should prioritize OL/WR/RB/TE in that order.
Depending how the chips fall, I wouldn't mind trading down from 23 for more picks. A possibility is jax trading both their 2nd rounders for our 23rd overall and our 3rd rounder. it would give the jets picks 1, 2, and 13 in the 2nd round. Jax would move up for the extra 1st rounder and have picks 1, and 2 in the 3rd and we'd still have pick 22 in the 3rd. would give the jets picks 2, 33, 34, 45, and 86 in the 1st 3 rounds jax would have 1, 23, 25, 65, and 66 in the 1st 3 rounds. Having 2 extra 1sts after taking lawerence could be huge for jax adding some talent around him
we signed 2 WRs and mims is healthy and has a year under his belt. crowder, cole, and davis are more then good enough, our O-line is healthy and had time to gel. Becton is a stud, mcgovern and fant were solid. Only OG is our biggest need. GVR is trash but lewis is solid and we can draft an OG in the 2nd round (wyatt davis) and drafted clark who may be able to earn a spot over lewis or GVR soon. herndon could bounce back, talent is there. and we have a new offensive system and probably a new QB. gase's system was a big issue for the offense. We have a new defensive system and need players who fit it.
As much as I'd like a star running back like Harris, we don't have a luxury to draft one in the first round. To me, the pick has to be OL, maybe even another in second round. Whoever the second pick happens to be, it's imperative to protect him so we can create a situation where a rookie QB can succeed unlike Darnold had.
If we do not address the oline the qb we select at 2 will be another prospect the jets have ruined. Sam, mark, now zach or justin, that's just in the last few years.
we have addressed the o-line over the past 2 years. mcgovern, fant, GVR all signed. we drafted becton in the 1st. signed feeny for depth, resigned lewis after trading for him. drafted clark. what have we done for the Lber group? not to mention we can draft davis in the 2nd round who likely beats out GVR off the bat and that means GVR, lewis, and clark can battle for the LG spot. runing sam was more then just the o-line. we hired gase, we let his favorite WR walk and didn't really replace him, we were ravaged with inuries. he had bad luck like the mono and shoulder injuries. it was a storm of shit. any rookie QB coming in now has a set system and leaders (HC, OC, GM) who should be around for his entire rookie contract. a solid O-line with room to grow, and a very freidnly QB system along with 4 good WRs off the bat. asking a rookie to throw 60 times a game because your D can't stop anyone won't help him either
Crowder is gone at the end of the year and Cole is a one year near-30 year old rental. The receiving corps is relatively depleted again. I'm not pounding the table for a receiver because I like a lot of guys in the later rounds but it would certainly make sense if we felt a good one was there. As badly as we need to improve linebacker play, it's not generally a first round position nor is guard. I think there are exceptions to positional value if you think the player is going to be a great player but I wouldn't take one there simply because we need it. I'd need to be thinking plug and play instant 6-7 year starter. Elijah Moore, Dynami Brown, Tylan Wallace, etc. are all potential good mid-round receiver looks and my guy Jonathan Adams Jr. Toney is the only receiver I'd take at 23/34 that could be available though. He needs some seasoning but he can get that given the state of the receivers heading into next year. Pete Werner from Ohio State would be a good look at linebacker for our system but he might creep way up the boards.
The value in early 20s seems to be at corner however this is a zone scheme where good fits can be found at later points in the draft. Only one id consider is Farley bc hes a perfect scheme fit & projects a playmaker not just a cover man. Ideally we wanna take offense but unless a premium WR drops its sort of in no man’s land. Either trade up for an Offensive playmaker or trade down for IOL/re visit CB
