I wouldn't count on Syndergaard - if he isn't good in the second half of the year they won't want to re-sign him to anything but a short-term deal, and if he is good someone will want to dramatically overpay him. I certainly think they should make a deal with Conforto.

deGrom agreed with the decision because he was pitching on 10 days rest. Considering that they got through the 7th inning without any runs being scored I doubt that it made any difference anyway. This was about bad bullpen, bad defense, and lack of clutch hitting, just like always. On the other hand, Rojas didn't do anything to distinguish himself last year, and he's off to the same start this year. The scariest news for Mets fans, ridiculously enough, probably occurred 3000 miles away, when Fernando Tatis, Jr., in the first year of his 14-year contract, injured himself (possibly seriously) swinging the bat. That is why giving anyone a contract for 10+ years is tremendously risky.
Why use Castro and May for the second straight game, with a 6-1 lead, making them unavailable for the day game tomorrow? What about Familia or Betances? Why wouldn't you try to get other guys starting their seasons?
