Draft Profile - CB Greg Newsome II

Should the Jets target him at 23? I think he is my preferred option at 23 (assuming we can land a solid guard at 34)

I agree 100%. In any case, it will be interesting to see if JD goes Newsome or OG (Jenkins? Humphrey? Davis?) at 23. He might also consider another zone corner like Melifonwu at 34.

I think I'd rather go top G at #23 and Samuel Jr. at #34 - assuming Horn is off the board.

I can definitely respect that and would be 100% fine with it.

I just feel like Samuel has the lowest floor of all the guys that will be available at those picks. At worst, he can play in the slot. I know he's undersized but he's tough as nails. Really like him as a prospect.

And then at #23 you're probably picking whichever IOL you like the best.

I like Newsome and would have no problem with him on green and white (and black).

As always, awesome work with the video.

Would love to see you break down D'Wayne Eskridge WR Western Michigan. Absolutely love him. And it seems we won't be taking a WR with our top three picks. He probably goes in the third round hopefully to us (Corey Davis connection helps also).

Do you mean the highest floor? The lowest floor isn't good.

I'm not sure i want to wait for 34 for this kid. His stats, measurements and film all line up to being a star.

Yes if Horn is gone this should be the pick at 23. I think there will be plenty of solid OL options at 34 whether it’s guard, tackle, or even center ( less likely ). I believe JD will be selecting two OL in the first four rounds....

IMO even if Horn is still on the board, the pick should be OL. We cannot make the same mistake that Mac did and draft D right after taking a QB. I don't give a damn how good the CB is or how much better he is than the other CBs that are left. IMO nothing is more important than protecting the QB. CB can wait until #34 or better still, #66.

I can't believe all the posters I'm seeing advocating for taking a CB at #23. SMH

You guys need to wake up. We cannot afford to have another QB fail because our stupid GM took D players in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. Do you guys pay any attention to Jets draft history at all? I get it that we need a #1 CB. We aren't going to the playoffs this year anyway, so that can wait another round or two, or even until next year if need be. We need to protect the QB. Counting on Lewis, Van Roten and Feeney is foolish. Hopefully, Cam Clark can win one of the starting spots, but he has zero NFL experience and he may struggle. We need another starter at OG, and we need better depth. If Becton gets injured and misses games again, we cannot have Edoga or McDermott protecting Wilson or Fields.

In the name of balance, you guys are wanting to repeat the same mistakes that were made when we drafted Sam. Make no mistake, that's what you're doing prioritizing a CB over OG. We treated Sanchez similarly. We had a good veteran OL and some pretty good WRs, but as they retired or were allowed to walk, they weren't replaced.

This is a weak draft for OLine. It would be illogical to pick solely on positional need nice BPA from numerous positional needs. Drafting IOL at 34 and one of the 3rd round picks is more than enough to have the team moving the right direction, especially if 23 gets you a Pro Bowl CB. Jets have 2 1st round picks and 2 2nd round picks next year.

I am sorry but first 23/34 need to be all offense. We cant make same mistakes with QB1 as we did with Darnold

It is a weak draft for the Center position. It is NOT a weak draft for the OL. You are mistaken. This is a great, deep draft for OTs, and a pretty good draft for OGs. The problem is that if we are indeed running a wide zone blocking scheme, there may not be a lot of OGs who fit the requirements. It's not definite that we're running a wide zone scheme, however, and they could decide to alter that based on players that they like in the draft.

For argument's sake, let's say that they are going with the wide zone scheme. Alijah Vera-Tucker is a fit. Wyatt Davis is a fit. There may be a few others who are fits. There are a number of OT prospects that could play OG for a year or two and then move to RT when the Jets decide to move on from Fant. Chief among them are Rashawn Slater, Teven Jenkins, Jalen Mayfield, Alex Leatherwood, Dillon Radunz, Jackson Carman, and I'm sure there are others. In addition, Creed Humphrey and Josh Myers could also play OG.

There is NOTHING illogical about picking on positional need. The Jets have a glaring need at OG that they weren't able to address in FA, they're conceivably starting a rookie QB, and they don't want to do the same thing to him that was done to Sam,. What is illogical is ignoring need, and just drafting BPA, and making the same mistake that was made with and Sam. That would be beyond illogical, and in fact, would be flat out stupid. Just good enough on the OL isn't "good enough." The Jets should make certrain that they have a very good OL.

I've been following this team for 55 years, am a student of the draft, and am not a typical, ignorant Jets fan who is full of opinions, but little knowledge. I'm totally aware of how many draft picks the Jets have over the next two years, and how long it's been since the Jets have drafted OL high. I'm also totally aware of how previous Jets' GMs have screwed the QB and the offense with mediocre or worse OLs, so get the heck out of here with your nonsense. We have greatly improved our pass rush. JD can still sign Sherman or some other FA CB. That's what he should do. If not, good zone CBs can be found in the middle rounds. I know that Saleh wants a CB that can play man and shut down opposing WRs, but too bad, he's not gonna get everything he wants his first season. Most of the $s and acquisitions in FA were to the defense. The defense was already way ahead of the offense and was an NFL-caliber offense. For the last several years, our offense hasn't even been at the level of a power 5 conference team, much less at an NFL level. With our two #1 picks next year we can draft a #1 CB and a blue-chip DE.

I think it wise to take a CB at 23 and then use 34 and one of the 3rd rounders to address the Oline.

Like you mentioned, there are multiple guys that could be had for the Oline in that range. You could say the same for CB as well though.

I am open to anything! If JD decided to take OL at 23 and 34 I wouldn't cry one bit. We all know one of the best drafts the NYJ have ever had was the Brick Mangold draft.

Aside from Becton, no high draft picks have been used on the OL since 2000 when we took Brick and Mangold. Don't you think it's time that we do so again and prevent another Sam situation from happening? In the grand scheme of things, particularly since we're running a zone scheme, CB can wait, it just isn't as important as protecting the QB and helping him and the offense succeed.

I respect your opinion and would love to be able to add a CB at #23, but imo it would be most unwise to take a CB there and not take an OL. We're just going to have to agree to disagree on this one.

I mentioned in our stream last night that of all the needs on the team, I would be OK if we decided to NOT heavily invest in the secondary.

I still would love to add a CB in round 3 if we do decide to double up on the OLine at 23/34.

Having said all of that, I think it is very likely Joe D uses one of those picks to trade back to acquire even more capital.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if JD trades back from #23 or #34. In fact, it would probalby surprise me if he didn't.

Sorry, I meant to write IOL. There are quite a few tackles but I really don't see the Jets picking a tackle unless they had experience inside. Maybe you have more confidence in this draft for Guards than I do.

Without getting into a huge debate about the past and how they failed Darnold, the Jets have more than enough picks to give both the defense and offense love over the next two years. WHat it comes down to is maximizing the value. The drop off at CB from pick 23 to 66 is much much larger than the drop off in IOL from 23 to 66. In the end, you try to maximize improvements at all positions with special focus on your needs.

I agree with this, Saleh won't get everything he wants but he won't punt on defense this draft. It will be a combination of both.
