He's the second best player in the draft. If he were a WR no one would question it. But he can play anywhere and make plays.
Well, well, well, look what I found. Would like some of you football gurus to opine. We have two respected QB player/coaches disagree on the below play. O'Sullivan does not like it. This this is a bad decision and could be a pick or batted ball at best, so you don't make this throw. Thinks DB made a terrible play. Jenkins says this was a good throw, shows good arm talent, Zach is also rushed, isolated WR and DB one on one and made a perfect throw where only WR can make a play. Thinks DB actually did a good job not allowing WR to beat him up the field. With all due respect to JT, I think he is a bit harsh on Zach here. I saw no other options and rusher was closing in. Either give your receiver a shot or take a sack. And I think there is no chance this is intercepted. But what do you think? 0:33 second mark: 0:58 second mark:
Kellen Mond is a sleeper. He throws like Mahomes but his footwork is terrible. If he’s able to improve it, he’ll be a steal for whichever team drafts him.
Of course. Actually both O'Sullivan and Jenkins also bring these up in the videos and I agree. But did you see this play I am referring to? What do you think?
Sullivan is saying it’s an example of him going through his reads too quickly. Jenkins is saying that he determined pre-snap where he wanted to throw the ball. Weirdly enough they are both right depending on how you look at it. I said earlier that Wilson predetermines where he wants to go pre-snap and uses eye manipulation which makes it looks like he’s going through reads quickly. This is an example of this. Sullivan’s read order is probably correct. Zach only looked at that “1st read” (air quotes) only to move the coverage, he knew he wanted that go route pre-snap. With regards to the throw itself, I side with Sullivan. it’s an interceptable jump ball in the NFL. He had time before the hit to have better ball placement. Just my thoughts; I’m no Phil Simms.
I like that he gave his receiver a chance to make a play. But a better corner makes a play on that ball. But maybe he knew the corner was trash and that was part of his calculation. When the corner is on top of the receiver like this one was when Wilson released the ball, this should be a back shoulder throw. Which is something I’ve seen Wilson do very well at times, so it’s weird that he didn’t do it here.
I believe Wilson has gotten really good at pre-snap recognition. I don’t subscribe to the notion that he’s this super quick processor post snap. IMO he misses (as in does not see) too many open WRs for that to be true. Mac 3 first and 3rd Jones is the quick post snap processor in this class from the tape I’ve watched.
The Jets hired a new staff. They have a 23 yr. old QB who everyone agrees can make all the throws. Are they going to tell JD that they can't coach him up and that he should draft another young one and they can coach him? Makes no sense.
If that was to happen I think they would have taken the trade back and even trading back up like Miami, taking Pitts at #6 and another 1st and a couple of thirds in the bag
Especially if you can still get Fields/Jones/Lance (at #8) and Mccafferty (trade) plus Carolina's 2022 1st & 2nd! Then if Fields/Jones/Lance are all gone, pivot back to Sam and take Pitts/Chase/Devonte/Sewell. Could this could be the reason JD is holding on to Sam?....cover his ass in case his trade down blows up in his face? I think if JD knew 100% he's all in on Zack/#2, Sam would have been gone by now.
Christian McCaffrey is an interesting take, I would love to see him in green, then you could spend the next two season practising spelling his name like Darnold's
Can't he be good at both? Wilson's numbers against pressure indicate he's extremely good at processing post snap.
The blitz is more about identifying your hot route pre snap. You usually do not have much time post snap to be going through reads and progressions. A lot of OSU’s passing plays don’t even have built in hots.
