I don't doubt that Meyer really has a heart condition or whatever, but I think the reason he flamed out of both Florida and Ohio State go beyond his "health" concerns and even his buddy coach beating his wife. There's a reason he had the top criminal college football team of all time in 2008.
I agree; Fields gets picked to death. It’s been increasing rare to find anyone doing the same to Lawrence and Zach.
Indeed times are tough now days. But really, I thought 3/4 of that Houston game was Zach's worst performance this entire season. That's where majority of O'Sullivan's criticism comes from, and I do agree. Zach really got going in the 4th though and put them away, making some really good throws.
Man, this is really tough. Legler, Vilma, Kurt, Meandean - you all have done a great job laying out the case for Fields, especially over the last few days. I appreciate all the good points you have made and it's really made me think on some things. I feel grateful to be part of such good debate. I know we get at each other's necks sometimes (my fault more than anything) but it's really nice to have people who know the game so well to go back and forth on this stuff with. I still prefer Wilson, but it's really close. I won't be unhappy at all if we take Fields and there are still moments where I feel he might be the better pick. The biggest thing that concerns me with Wilson is the level of competition thing. I think his labrum will be a non issue if he can keep his weight up and avoid unnecessary contact. Fields' ceiling is definitely sky high, but I maintain that a big part of that is due to his running ability, and I'm not a huge fan of QB's who run a lot. I think it's arguable that Wilson has a higher ceiling as a passer which I value more. I know Fields is a passer first and foremost, not a "running" QB. I do think that he's quicker to run than most though because he can afford to given his elite athleticism. Wilson definitely has a slower top speed than Fields but I think they're comparable in 10-20 yard quickness which I think is most important for a QB anyway.
Very simple.Due to the scheme & his style of play Fields is the biggest projection of the 3. Fans/media hate projections & prefer things at face value
That’s my only goal is to eliminate this Wilson is head and shoulders narrative that has permeated the draft world somehow. If one believes Zach is better, it can’t be by much IMO.
It seems like you are going for the "Wilson is going to be a major bust" narrative. You are making your case by showing how bad Wilson will be. I will be happy with either but your constant battering of Wilson is a major turn off for me. Not that you care
We must recognize the fact that the top 2 or may be 3 QBs are very close in capabilities with different strenghts and weaknesses but overall a great body of work and a high ceiling, so the real question is not who is better, but who fits better for what the Jets want to do. We are also assuming that our offense will mirror SF but I suspect we might have different nuisances that might lean towards one and not the others.
I do enjoy Rich Eisen, his brother and nephew along with him are diehard Jets fans SOJ take crosses every Jets fan's mind at some point
Hey Gang, Kyle Pitts just ran a 4.4 at Florida's pro-day. He also measured the longest wing span of any receiver in the last 20 yrs. At 6'5" 250 he is as fast as Fields. Now we know why the Jets are not trading down.
100% this...On paper Trevor is superior and the rest are very comparable so it comes down to fit and style. Which is why I think Darnold needs to be moved...To me he is right below Wilson and Fields as a QB in this draft. He just isn't the best fit for us now with new management
Great analysis! While I could argue with a couple of "negatives" he made, overall he was fair and accurate. Frankly, while I still want Wilson, I was getting annoyed at all the "Zach is perfect. He's Mahomes II. etc". Of course he makes mistakes, of course he's not perfect. And I appreciate how O'Sullivan pointed out exactly where the flaws/mistakes were. But these are correctable mistakes, or improvements that he can make. I saw no "deal breakers" in any of this. I still have Wilson at the top. But I wouldn't be unhappy with Fields. In fact, I get the sense - based on really nothing I can pinpoint - that Fields is the Jets guy, and that's why SF moved up to #3, so they could get Wilson. I'd be disappointed, but not unhappy if that's what happens. Okay, now let the Wilson haters pile on with all the "I told you so's!".
