I think he’s the hidden gem JD is looking for. He opted out and that hurts him because there is only one year of production similar to Chase/Sewell. However, after watching his tape and his pro day to make sure he stayed fit was impressive. This kid has bend, a great first step and a bunch of nice moves to get there. Also his tape last year was unbelievable and was unstoppable at times. If he’s there at 23 this has to be our pick. He will be an absolute steal and is completely under the radar because of the opt out.

I'm a fan of Jaelan Phillips. He has decent talent with a lot of upside and the work ethic of a champion.

I know we've discussed before but I'll just throw my analysis in the ring as he has his own thread.

He has all the physical talent in the world but I never really saw it when I watched tape. Long arms, big frame, but very skinny and not a ton of developed pass rush moves (they can be added).

He lined up all over the place in their NASCAR style packages but he was always the guy with the clean up sack rather than the big pressure to force the quarterback to react.

He reminds me a lot of Randy Gregory minus the pot issues. Tall, skinny, long and fast but a lot more raw than the college production indicates. I'd take a crack at him later in the draft but I don't really like him in the first or second. He also plays very high and at his height he could get tossed around if he doesn't improved his pad level in the pros.

Jaelan Philips can’t hold Rousseau’s jock strap

From what I saw he was all over the DL as well but on many occasions he was definitely first to the passer and especially on his tackles for a loss on RBs

Not sure about that, but Rousseau will be long gone by our 2nd pick.

I like Phillips a lot more. I think he has a bad concussion history though which might be why he's slightly down the board. I can see him hopping into the first. He and Roche made their defense look a lot better than it was.

Here ya go with the wild crazy takes and assertions. SMH The Jets don't have to take a DE this year, and imo shouldn't take one. They surely don't have to take Rousseau. That would be so Jets. Draft a QB and then draft a bunch of defensive players high, instead of building the offense around that rookie, and also, neither Rousseau, nor Phillips, nor any edge in this draft is a blue chip Edge. There should be 2-3 next year, and it's also supposed to be a deeper group of edges, and the Jets have 2 - 1st picks. Takling a DE at all this year, but especially in the 1st round but be typical Jets' stupidity imo.

Rousseau is a blue chip prospect and if we get a chance at him at 23 we should thank the football gods. Most don’t know about him because he opted out (which was bad advise IMO) and if he played this year I think we would be in the conversation for top 5 with Sewell and chase but because there are so many DE in this draft he is getting lost in the process. He reminds me of Chandler Jones when I watch him. Long, with a great first step and bend. I get what your saying with trying to draft mostly offensive so they grow together but if a guy like Rousseau or Jaycee Horn is there at 23 it will be pretty hard to pass on them

He is not a blue chip prospect. No one in the media thinks he is. They have repeatedly said that there are no blue-chip Edge prospects this year.

Why is it a wild take? Based on the way Douglas drafts it appears as though he's going for the balanced approach.

I fully expect us to take a defensive player at 23/34 although I hope we go offense/offense as you do.
