One thing I find alarming about him doesn't do well in crunch time or top 5 teams which I find alarming why I'm more for sticking with Sam or looking at Jones and Fields.
He played decently against Coastal Carolina and almost lead the team to a miracle last second comeback. Has he even played against top 5 teams?
hard to say he’s not good in crunch time. Schedule was what it was in 2020. In 2019, he lead BYU to 2OT win vs Tennessee, then week later drove them down the field in 4th for win vs USC 27-24... got hurt and had a bad rest of 2019 season. 2020 he lead them down the field with no time left vs Coastal Carolina... threw some dimes and his WR came up 6” short of winning the game.
if this guy gets picked by us there are 3 people the young man should sit down with to chat before he puts on a green jersey. 1. parcells. 2. esiason. 3. lyons. IMO its self explanatory as to what each one of these folk bring to the table and could offer some very valuable insight across multiple topics.
Again all his concerns are mostly based from 2019 stats. It's like using 2018 stats to discredit Josh Allen in 2020. You know players evolve, learn and adjust.
"In his career, Wilson went 3-4 with nine touchdown passes and five interceptions against Power-5 and ranked opponents." Yikes.
Mahomes went 5-7 and threw 10 picks his jr year... if you look at his sophomore season, he threw 35 tds - 16 int’s and had a few bad games vs ranked teams (1 td - 4 int vs Oklahoma)... Wilson’s vs ranked teams mostly come as a sophomore in 2019... when he was hurt... Cherry picking stats means little. Tom Brady’s post season stats show 83 tds - 38 ints and we call him the GOAT.
There is a constant dismissal of the quality of opponents Wilson faced last season. When you see a third string QB come in during the 2nd half of a preseason game and light it up, do you consider that a reliable measure? Are you able to properly evaluate how good they are as starters in the NFL when they are playing against a bunch of guys who will be selling shoes in two weeks? Almost all of the players Wilson faced in 2020 wouldn't even make it to the preseason on an NFL team. Many wouldn't even be considered very good D2 defenses. This is why people have to focus on arm strength, accuracy, and other measures that aren't related to managing an offense. The data we have on Wilson performing well against decent defenses is very shaky. Too shaky to use the most valuable pick we've had in decades on. When you factor in that its not his only red flag then....come on man. Are we just trying to fail?
the article complete ignores his injuries in 2019. he was coming off shoulder surgery. wasn't at 100% he said to start the year he was at 65-70% but they all felt him at that percent is better then anyone else they had. then he injured his hand and played through it a few games then had surgery and came back and played more after surgery. he was really banged up in 2019 with throwing hand and throwing shoulder injuries. if anything it shows how tough the kid is.
Pro's: Wilson is going to light up the league and be the best Jets QB in years. Con's: The Jets have some truly annoying and negative fans and beat reporters.
And that he has an injury history that should be taken into account when in consideration at the 2 pick.
of course. all the negatives I had on him were injuries/off field rumors. film doesn't really show any weakness in his game
This guy has so many of the tools to succeed in this offense. Timestamp 1:18 and 7:02 will melt you eyeballs off.
