It's pretty hard to be that confident because when Darnold was a USC Trojan he did not face the juggernaut that was the Trojans of Troy Alabama or the the behemoth Bulldogs of Louisiana Tech. Not quite the "same universe" at all. Do you truly believe it should not be considered, not so much in comparison with Darnold but in comparison with the guys he's actually competing against now?
Wow that 1st one is pretty damning. Wilson feasted on the crap teams but every time he stepped up in competition he failed. Although he put a couple games in both categories there that he shouldn't, mop up duty at the end
That's a shoddy comparison because Wilson facing easier teams is strongly correlated with him being in his last season, where in addition to facing easier competition, he improved a lot irrespective of the schedule.
This "career" stat is misleading in telling the full story though because Jones and Wilson stood out and improved this year. I want to see what those figures are in 2020
Yeah it's definitely interesting to look at. I do think the '19 season should be taken with a grain of salt because of his injury. And for this past season, lot of people look at that Coastal Carolina loss for Wilson and scream about it, but I don't think they actually look in depth past the box score. That game was taken at the last minute because the team they were lined up to play cancelled due to COVID.
Nobody talks about Kellen Mond. He was the best at the Senior bowl...9,000 career passing yards in the SEC is hard to do - maybe he's another 4th round Dak Prescott. And everyone is freaking out about Paxton Lynch and Connor Cook (Wilson...Fields.)
This is Jones first year as a full time starter. Not sure it can be categorized as improving. Career matters you don’t ever want to get Trubisky’d; I hear that’s painful.
Because he sucks. He was the best protected quarterback in a weak year for team defense in the SEC and didn't light it up. I mean he played fine, but as a third year starter, with a great offensive line (collective, no stand out starters but I'd bet a couple of em get drafted) and he didn't play great.
ugh...only the jets can pick #2 and still not have that "perceived" slam dunk QB pick ready for the take.
Something else that concerns me about Wilson. Dude holds the ball down too low!!!! He is going to fumble a lot in the NFL if he doesn't fix that. Pass rushers come off the edge, often times they can't get to the body but they latch right on to that low hanging football or swing a fist at it.
Idk its just a visual observation, the stats might not bare it out but also its a projection as well as pass rushers are gonna be more savvy in the NFL than in the WAC... or whatever conference BYU plays in. Fields looks like he holds the ball up high enough
I have no idea what their fumble stats are but Fields film can be used as ball security in the pocket education videos. You watch him maneuver in the pocket and he routinely keeps both hands on the ball. I can’t remember the last QB prospect to habitually do that particularly the mobile ones. He’s been well taught in that area. If he has fumbles but it won’t be because he’s careless w/ how he holds the ball in the pocket.
Cimini is going to trash the Wilson selection. He rather see the Jets spin their wheels with Darnold.
