I think one team will fork over a 2nd rounder for him. The Jets got a 3rd for Bridgewater. I can’t imagine Sam is worth that much less than Carson Wentz.
You do understand that the list of guys that "had a really nice workout in front of GM's" is far longer than those that don't, right? The events are literally built around a players strengths, the speed times are usually inflated and they're in their own environment. That's why I don't put much stock into them at all. The most important part of a Pro Day is the conversations, not the six on zero work in shorts without pads. A quarterback is going to be able to have more flexibility in their upper body and specifically neck/shoulders without pads on as well. Hence why you literally never see throws like that. It's cool that he can make it though I guess.
Man, where did that kid go eh? What a waste of talent, you watch that and think hmm maybe one more chance with a competent coaching staff
Everything you said is true and I will say this about giving up on Sam. We could get at least 3 1s and a 3 and 4 based on what teams have been giving up to move up on this draft. JD better be sure about Zach because that is a lot of 1s to leave on the table.
I recall during the Sam hype patrol there was one discerning voice who described Sam Darnold as 'a cow on ice'. I could never shake that description. But the Sam era won't be totally over. Say we trade Sam to Pittsburg, and then face them in 2022, 2023, whatever. If Sam comes back to town, how do you think the fans will receive him? Applause or booooos? It's sad to lose our QB after I finally figured out how to spell his last name without thinking about it!
Yeah! we’d like to think that the professionals who are actually being PAID to do the drafting are smarter than us, but yet, at least with our team, when I look back at previous drafts, you can see that if our GMs had simply drafted according to the consensus on boards like this one, we’d be a MUCH better team. And that’s not hindsight....it would be fun to pull up old draft threads and see who we all wanted, and guaranteed they were better choices than the shit we got from Idzik and Mac and Bradway....
more and more I think this will be the case as well....to me, it’s the safest move in that it mitigates risk the most. Sam is still on a cheap contract It allows whoever the rookie QB is to sit if he shows he’s not ready If Sam plays and does well, it increases his trade value....granted we’d have to either exercise his option or be ready to franchise tag him in order to maximize value, but those can be managed There is no need to sell low...if the value is truly only a fourth, then it may even make sense to keep him even if just for a year....a fourth round pick is not changing the fate of the franchise It also keeps Sam around in case the market changes later (maybe a QB injury, maybe Denver or Carolina strike out in the draft and don’t get a QB, etc) it’s not the end of the world
Weren't you the guy advocating that we should get at minimum one first round pick for him if not more?
When the Jets won the game that cost them Trevor Lawrence, I felt in my heart, here we go again, we’re screwed. Chalk it up to years of frustration but the bad drafting of the past flashed before my eyes like a nightmare that refuses to let you wake up. This should be an exciting time for us fans and I want to believe in JD but I fear that we will be drafting another QB just like the one we are throwing away. I wanted to trade the pick, build the line and give Sam a chance. Hopefully I’m wrong.
Agree 100%. I won't bash Zack, but come on man. He threw a pass he had rehearsed probably 50 times in prep for his proday. No comparison whatsoever to what Sam did with live bullets flying.
What if no team has offered anything of value for Sam and the Jets love a QB at 2? I don’t think it’s a bad thing if that’s the case.
IK Enemkpali broke Geno's jaw in 2015 during a dispute over $600. https://www.espn.com/new-york/nfl/story/_/id/13416881/geno-smith-new-york-jets-6-10-weeks-broken-jaw
Also the guy who acted like me saying we'd get a 3rd for Sam was such a bad opinion that it should disqualify all my other opinions
Florida's pro day is Wed. Expect to see much tape on Kyle Pitts. By the end of the day the draft nix's will have him jumping up into the top five unless he trips over the lines or runs a 4.6 40. Same deal. JD etc. will be there and he will ace the interview. Bank on it.
