If I was advising Fields, I wouldn’t touch his throwing mechanics. He’s very accurate as it is; I wouldn’t want to f%ck that up. Instead I’d have him speed up his drop & set up. He has very good footwork but it’s too relaxed & methodical. Easy fix for someone as athletic as he is. When you combine a slow drop/set up w/ an elongated delivery, it’s no wonder he is sometimes late on timing throws.

Almost every play is hyperbolic IMO but I expect the times he does it to decrease as his number of snaps increase.

Quick decisions aren’t always good decisions. I feel that distinction is missing in this year’s draft conversation.

So tru...can't play scared...but cant play reckless either. I like Zack. But I wish I was 'more sure'. For teams without the top pick, the chances of drafting a FQB are less than 10%. Closer to 5%. 20:1 odds your guy will never develop into a FQB. The most JD can do is draft a guy with the maximum probability. Zack is NOT 100%. He's probably closer to 10%. The Zack I laid out as the 'perfect Zack' (2 yrs success, larger, stronger, injury free) might jack his chances to 20%.

JD just has to balance the chances Zack becomes the guy against what he could get by trading down. Maybe 2022 will have an even better prospect..bigger, stronger, healthier. Who knows? Tough call.

That makes sense. Perhaps it's that he needs a greater sense of urgency. Maybe his great OL at OSU lulled him into taking his time.

Perhaps. If the Jets draft him, hopefully it will decrease a lot.

True, but they aren't necessarily bad either. They just need to learn to go through their reads/progressions more quickly and make better decisions quickly.

I don't think Fields' delivery affects his accuracy, he's very accurate. All else equal though a quick release is obviously preferable.

Regarding staring down receivers, I agree that Fields tends to do so. It seems like that is largely a byproduct of the option routes Ohio State runs, so not Fields' "fault" per se. With that being said, the system they run is at the very least reinforcing bad habits that he will have to shake in the NFL. I'm not saying Fields is incapable of doing so, just that it's another hurdle he'll have to jump.

Wilson, on the other hand, is already quite good at using his eyes to move defenders where he wants them. This is something I don't see in college QB's that often because it's one of the more nuanced parts of playing the position. For Wilson to already be good at it is a great sign for me.

Regarding getting sacked a lot, it's certainly not a good thing. You can't just name a bunch of good QB's it happens to and then act like it's not a bad thing because they've succeeded despite it. It's bad. How bad? I don't know. But you don't want your QB getting sacked a lot. It's partially on the OL but partially a QB stat as well. As far as I can tell, Fields was sacked at more than twice the rate Wilson was last season.

  8. A few reasons. And please note..im not banging the table for Fields either.. he just makes alot more sense at #2 to me.

I dont think Fields red flags are quite as concerning as Wilson’s.

The stigma about OSU QBs while worth dissecting will inevitably be broken.Just as Mahomes broke it for Air raids,Vick broke it for dual threats & Rodgers broke it for poor Jeff Tedford.

The biggest worry w Fields is staring down targets, questionable internal clock & the number of scripted throws. But all of that has now been openly attributed to scheme. His literal role in certain concepts was to stare down primary targrets until they got open..which he did masterfully. Is it a major unknown if he can go through progressions quickly? Yes it is. On the same level of risk as some of Wilson’s?IMO no.

Fields has a much stronger body of work at a higher level dating back to HS. He’s also a true dual threat capable of making guys miss in open field & chunk plays. Think thats an added element As welll.

Have heard alot of things about his intangibles, competitiveness & grit dating back to HS that just simply doesnt exist for ZW. We’ve seen Fields succeed, struggle & respond favorably over multiple seasons. Thats a big deal.

    Fields has a longstanding pedigree.

As for why id leave if ZW got drafted? Some hyperbole on my end of course. But Wouldnt agree w the pick & starting a brand new regime w that sort of draft pick after the decade we just endured is like perpetual OJ immediately after brushing teeth.

Bigger than that, every offseason there are players both in FA/Draft that become fan favorites for the team to acquire & a consensus is built. Increasingly over the yrs ive disagreed w many of these proclamations..no more prevelant than QBs. The track record for what Jet fans want & think is best or NOT best for that matter at QB is not good. And yet the opinions get stronger & more politicized.

For someone who loves roster management/team architecture more than any other aspect of the sport, my favorite time of the football calendar has become like presidentual campaign season. There is no more prime example of what im describing than this ZW ascension. Its not fun anymore.I wonder if i even fit in w this fan base anymore.

When I see Fields speak, I get the Kobe 'job's not finished' competitiveness.

I've been hyperbolic in overanalyzing Wilson's potential character flaws, but I just don't get that same level of competitiveness when I see him talk. He just looks happy to be there. That could be a mischaracterization as to how he really is behind the scenes, but Fields seems like the ultimate leader of men.

I've said it in other threads and I'll say it here. I don't think we should force a pick at 2. But of Fields has as good a proday as Wilson, I think Fields is the pick. He's faced major opposition and he has succeeded. Wilson has not faced that opposition. And Darnold is still a question mark. Opportunities to trade down are limited now woth SF moving up. Depending on the pro day, i think Fields is our man.

The Sam Darnold hill is so crowded that there might not be enough room to bury all the draft “experts” trying to die on it.

I'd move Fields over Lance, but yes I agree otherwise.

Leadership is what made CLE ultimately pick Baker over Sam. They had Sam ahead after looking at the film but decided on Baker after they met both.

Some draft picks are like trading a cow for a handful of magic beans.

Taking one of these QBs with our second pick is like trading a golden cow for a handful of regular beans.

We are on the verge of a momumental screw up.

You may now return to your regular programming.

The evidence is the Qb's in the league. What successful QB in the league past or present has a long slow delivery?

I don’t believe every successful QB in the league as a short quick release.

I really like this. Order seems legit. Zack may be a better version of Sam. The only one I don't know anything about is Trey Lance other than he looked like a great athlete at his proday, unlike most QBs who look shockingly un-athletic!

Is a better version of Sam the most desirable prize with the 2nd overall pick?

How about a better version of Allen?
