This is actually my last concern.

People don't realize that they are still growing. Heck Wilson look more like 16 years old than actually 22 years old.

Look, I get we may REALLY REALLY NEED a FQB. I get we may not draft this high again for a decade. I get we CAN'T pass on a FQB, unforgivable.

BUT....NONE of that matters. At All.

Think for just a moment (stay with me) that the QBs in this draft are Trevor Lawrence, Marcus Mariota, Mitchell Trubisky, Trey Lance, and Mac Jones. Those are the top 5. We figure Trevor is going #1 to the Jags. So we start fixating on the rest. Some fall in love with Mariota, others Mac Jones. After the prodays and after Chris Simms predicts Mariota is the best, we start dreaming about Joe Douglas using our #2 overall on Marcus Mariota. We'll FINALLY have our FRANCHISE QB!! We CANT pass up this chance. We just can't. We won't be drafting this high again for a decade!!!

    How would that work out?

The fact we're drafting #2 is meaningless. It's ALL about the talent of the players. Which team is drafting 2nd or 5th or 3rd is meaningless. The ONLY thing that matters is the player himself.

So that brings me to Zack. He DOES have a great arm. He DOES make crazy throws off platform. He DOES give you enough to at least dream about him being the chosen one.

But it's NOT a slam dunk. If JD decides to use #2 on Zack, it will be close, difficult decision.

So what WOULD be a slam dunk?

    1) if Zack had TWO injury free years performing at a high level against TOP SEC defenses.
    2) if Zack was 6'-5" tall
    3) if Zack weighed 230-240 pound
    4) if Zack suffered zero injuries to date

THAT would be a slam dunk.

The last thing JD wants to do is use his #2 on the next Mariota, or a brilliant young QB who just can't stay on the field.

I don't know why, but Louis Riddick annoys the hell out of me. There is nothing worse than a person who thinks everything they say is right and everyone else is wrong and he is unfortunately one of those people despite being wrong constantly.

That tweet (and his responses on it) are beyond terrible. Not even comparable. Zach Wilson made some really nice throws in a Pro Day work out. People should applaud and think they were nice throws. That's it.

Sam Darnold throws a very nice touchdown pass while down 31-6 at the end of a game in garbage time. Love the play. Love Sam, but what is the point? He can make nice throws too? We all know that. He made another great touchdown pass the following week to Berrios against the Colts. And 2 Pick-6's. Let's just show the TD pass and praise him? Just odd to me. He has made way more horrendous throws, and terrible decisions the last 3 seasons. That is life.

Just really ridiculous to post that, as to somehow take something away from the nice Pro Day Wilson had. People pushing agendas are embarrassing these days.

HUH? I think you quoted the wrong post. I don't understand this response at all. I'm not worried about Zach's size either. I think he'll put on some weight once he joins the Jets and as he gets older.

Of course not. If you remember they did have TL that draft and he busted as well. There is no such thing as a sure thing but you can't play scared because you might fail.

Regarding Wilson’s pro day, wasn’t it indoors? Big difference from Many of our game conditions

plus he’ll freeze playing in shorts and a T

I get the feeling that this is more a Wilson than Riddick thing.

Wilson- small, injury prone, not tested against top competition, mediocre until 2020

and yet everyone wants him. scary stuff.

    second vid

there is over a yard of separation here. it only looks like a tight window throw at the catch point because wilson put it on the receivers back hip instead of leading him

    third vid

good throw, but again, not a tight window. the defender is beaten and stacked by the receiver. college QBs make this throw all of the time.

See you Tube Video I posted on Steve Young talking about ZW. The break out year he said had a lot to do with offense of philosophy.

I’m a Fields guy but MOST “college QBs [don’t] make this throw all the time”. The ones with NFL potential do.

Yeah I think Riddick is mainly a toolbag and I don't like his arguments most of the time, and I'm not entirely buying into his argument here.

However, that Wilson throw has been made out to be some phenomenal throw when it's really not so different from something that can be accomplished by a guy like Darnold during a bad season under duress in a broken play.

Legler has it right. Wilson's ability to make off-platform throws isn't in question, it's how well can he throw on-platform with consistency under pressure against a solid defense and tight coverage. It's not all highlight reel circus throws in the NFL, a lesson that Sam Darnold has had to learn the hard way.

No shit Sherlock! It was a Pro Day, of course it is very different from game conditions. It's basically a work out, and people do put too much stock into it. But it is opportunity to see a player one more time, so it has SOME value. As far as actual games, that's one thing Zach has going for him. Being from Utah, they have a lot of games with high winds, cold, snow, bad weather conditions. Here is a recent example against SD State, which actually boasts really good defense, and I agree, you can take away from that a lot more:

just going from memory but past "arm talent" guys include drew bledsoe, Jeff George, Jarmacus Russell, and Jameis Winston. Also incudes Mahomes etc too.

Bottom line is not to get hypnotized by it.

not sure what your point is because you seem to be saying the same thing i was. Not to put too much into an indoor pro day

not sure what the vitriol is about

Even among that list I believe there is an upper tier. Guys like Jarmarcus, Favre & Josh Allen have insanely strong arms which IMO is just a component of arm talent. So they don’t make my upper tier list. My truly special arm talent list includes but is not limited to guys like Jeff George, Mahomes, Stafford, Marino, Rodgers, Cutler...etc. It’s an eclectic bunch of studs & duds.

I don't disagree with any o your red flags. All 100% viable. But to me there are just as many red flags with Fields and they have everything to do with his play on the field. I guess my question is why are Fields' red flags ok and Wilson's red flags worthy of you giving up your Jets fandom?
