With the draft right around the corner, and with JD in charge, working hand-in-hand with Saleh to turn things around, there is a lot of legitimate optimism on this board. We are going to draft a franchise QB in Zach Wilson, so I have a feeling that we will be celebrating our 2nd Super Bowl victory in the not too distant future. With that having been said, I figured it would be appropriate to post our 1st Super Bowl victory. I don't know how many of you have actually seen the game itself, so I linked it below, to give some of the younger guys a chance to watch it. On a related note, is there ANYONE on the board who actually saw this game live, either in-person or on tv??? It would be pretty cool if we had some Jets fans on the board who actually can remember this game, and who got to celebrate a Jets Super Bowl! Anyway, here's the game. Enjoy, bc I have a feeling we have another Lombardi Trophy in our future!
We were over 6 months away from the moon landing. Computers took up entire rooms. The internet wasn't born yet.
Yes, I watched it live, in black and white because we didn't own a color tv. When the Jets won I jumped up and down so hard that my mother thought I had been hurt and came running into the room to see what the commotion was. I was sure that the Jets would go on to become the "Yankees" of football. Boy how wrong I was! Still, it was one of the greatest moments in sports history, and still is.
haha I wasn't born yet either which is one of the reasons why I enjoy reading stories like ColoradoContrails! Thanks for sharing CC. Hopefully we have at least a few other TGG members who actually watched this game live, who can share their experience of watching the Jets win the Super Bowl!!!
CC, did you watch the game by yourself? You said your mother came running into the room bc of the commotion you created....so I assume she wasn't watching the game with you, lol. Were you watching it with your dad or any siblings or friends???
My parents weren't into sports at all...they thought it was a waste of time. But I was watching this with my older sister who I think was only interested because of Joe Willie. Most of my friends didn't root for the Jets, and I was always having to defend my support for them. I loved rubbing their noses in it the next day at school!
This was the last time we took a QB with a 1 or 2 pick. All the more case for Wilson. He was Broadway Joe... maybe Wall St Wilson he’s gets down to business. West Village Wilson he’s so pretty he’ll turn you gay The Midtown Mormon JetGreen (reference to his uncle)
LBJ was still in office you are correct - if that doesn’t put how long it’s been in perspective....geez
haha nothing like being a huge sports fan when u are a kid in grade school, and wearing your team's colours with pride after a big win.
Saw many of the games at Shea that year. $5 for standing room. Different world. Next season I was in the army.
I saw it on TV, also in black and white. We were visiting my Aunt and Uncle in another town. I can't remember if my Dad and Uncle watched it, or if the adults were playing cards. I was 14 years old. It was awesome. I already hated the Colts, and couldn't stand Johnny Unitas with his buzz cut and high-top cleats. Couldn't stand Earl Morrall, either.
