Who is saying this? I haven't looked at the Watson thread since all this came out as there is no way on earth JD would trade for him after this and tbh I don't think any other teams will either. The NFL will likely suspend him anyway regardless of lawful guilt.
I will not be pissed on any scenario. The only scenario that would bother me a bit is if the Jets stay 2nd overall and don't select a QB. I would love a scenario where we can get more assets while still get out guy! I am coming along with the Justin Fields fanboy crowd. The injuries record of Wilson are bothering me a bit and I actually really like the character of Fields to overcome his weaknesses but I still don't understand the full on hate on Wilson the guy has a lively arm.
No disagreement from me. Picking a tackle with the second pick would absolutely fry my ass, particularly when you can trade down to 8 or 4 and get a nice extra sets of picks, and Sewell will probably still be there at 8.
Even if he's not Rashawn Slater probably will be, and Teven Jenkins would be for sure. I could understand it if JD traded down, added a 2nd & 3rd and a 1st & 2nd next year, and a 1st in 2023 and took Slater, then took Vera-Tucker at #23. The OL would be pretty much set. He could then take Samuel or another CB at #34 then a Brevin Howard with the other 2nd round pick, nab a RB and Paris Ford in the 3rd round, or a WLB in there somewhere. The team would at least be in great shape aside from QB.
Have you considered that the OL isn't going to stay as bad as it was at the beginning of last season? If you'll recall, due to Covid, there were no mini-camps, OTAs, an abbreviated TC, and no preseason. That doesn't appear to be the case this season. The OL will already have spent an entire season alongside each other, and they got better as the season progressed, both individually and corporately. In addition, I'm certain that JD will add another OL or two in the draft, and Cameron Clark who was drafted last year, will likely be competing for a starting spot. This wide zone scheme is also supposed to be easier/better for OL, and we have a new, supposedly better OL Coach, so the OL itself should be better, perhaps a lot better. Then there's Wilson himself. One, he's not as fragile as you portray him. He took a lot of big hits last year. If you've watched any of his video you know that. Two, he's elusive, mobile, pretty quick, and he gets the ball out quickly. Most of the time on passing plays, he will probably get the ball out before the rush can get to him. Three, I expect him to add some more bulk once he gets on an NFL roster. With the Jets new training and development department that focuses on nutrition, and keeping players healthy, I believe that he will add 10 pounds or so of muscle. Four, the Jets' plan may be to sit him his rookie season or at least one-third or one-half of the season anyway to give him time to adapt to the NFL, work on what he needs to work on, and give the OL time to gel. I'm certain that the Jets have taken this into consideration, and if they think he is the best QB available to them, they will take the proper steps to protect him. If not, then they're all stupid, and it won't matter who the QB is anyway. We'll have much bigger problems than Wilson staying healthy.
I don't know what is more hilarious. People being impressed by a throw at a pro day or people discrediting that beautiful throw with other throw from NFL QBs. Why are peole so insecure regarding Wilson? Why can't they just appreciate his talent without having to take shot at him constantly...
I totally get it. I think we have a combination of things at play here...Folks, and I fall into this group, that feel like Sam has been ruined and could possibly be rebuilt with good coaching/talent. Folks, and I fall into this group too, that are seriously impressed w/ Wilson while understanding that with all draft prospects, especially QBs, who in the hell knows if any of them will transition successfully into the NFL. Then also the competing networks...The NFL Network, much like the MLB Network, generally speaking cover their respective sports in a very positive way. Not in an untruthful way but more in a "glass half full" type of way. ESPN, takes a bit of a different approach to coverage of the major sports in that they like to have conflicting viewpoints, sometimes in a loud blustery way...So NFL Network covers the pro days and you can tell there's such a very positive tone, as it is with most of their coverage of the sport. Where ESPN has a more "lets attack this from 5 different angles" approach, which is sometimes contrived as it seems to draw ratings...just my two cents
I can understand why people are annoyed with the hype. He's good. He's not the level of amazing that some of these talking heads are making it out to be.
Im not attacking the messenger, I’m attacking the message. It’s not well thought out. You’ll have a hard time finding a bigger proponent of keeping Sam than me, dating back to the Saleh hire. It makes 0 financial and logical sense to keep him, which is why even I’m aware that we have to move on. He’s very talented and I don’t doubt that he will be a starter again one day but it won’t be here. Douglas can’t risk it and beyond that, what are we gonna do sign him to a huge extension if he has one good year? Not to mention the throws aren’t even the same. Wilson went hash to hash and it was a longer throw. It’s just a terrible point by a guy who has tried and failed multiple times to be an NFL decision maker.
Lol. You’re talking about a scripted pro day throw. Wilson measuring under 6’3 is his biggest concern. He wont have Baker or Cards QB talent around him. I doubt he becomes a FQB. His physical intangibles are his biggest weakness and i don’t believe his talent is that great to supersede. He’ll probably have a true weight of 205 during the season. If he was super fast like the Cards QB diff story. but averaged 3.3 on run plays against BYU schedule. risky.
People love their off platform throws. I think there are some out there that think that’s what makes Rodgers & Mahomes great QBs. Cutler &, as shown here, Darnold are also great at this.
