Exactly! I don't know who that clown is, but imo he's clueless. He's probalby someone new that's trying to give a "hot take" to draw attention to himself, knowing that next year people will have forgotten how totally and utterly he was wrong about Wilson.
When the Jets selected Darnold they had 5 other picks, with no second round selection, one third, one fourth and 3 sixth round pick. And of course you had that moron making the picks. We are in a much better position to draft a QB at #2 and put some top rookie talent around him.
Yes we are, but that doesn't mean that's what Douglas will do. As Red Menace has posted, it's possible that JD stays at #2 and takes Sewell. Or he could trade with Atlanta and take Sewell at #4 if they promise not to use the #2 pick on him (less likely, but possible). Or JD could trade back farther for even more draft capital if he doesn't want Sewell or a QB. I'm not advocating for any of this, just pointing out that while everyone has now decided that they're CERTAIN Douglas is taking Wilson at #2, that they might be in for a shock come draft night.
It was a bad sign when a 25 year old DL was picked in round 3 that year. Orlando Brown was there for the taking. Then there's the 2019 offseason where we got the shiny toys(Bell and Mosley) instead of focusing on the OL like the Bills did.
That would be irresponsible for him not to be there at Fields’ pro day even if Wilson is his guy. Good GMs do their due diligence.
Maybe ATL would want their QB too an Or the ultimate smoke screen to increase the belief that he is all in on Wilson and want to get more interest in the 2nd overall. Not likely obviously.
I wouldn't dismiss the possibility that Fields is the pick at 2. We know that Douglas doesn't leak what he intends to do.
No argument there. I'm just saying that if he does go QB at 2, we are in a much better position to draft solid talent around him than we were with Sam.
I completely agree, and hope that's what he does, I'm just saying that no one really knows what he's going to do, despite all the "certain" pronouncements.
In fact, he's seemed to done a good job in leaking the opposite of what he's going to do. Fuller, Linsley, Hendrickson, Sam's the guy, etc...
Nothing is 100% of course, but given what 49ers gave up, that WAS the haul. That WAS the trade down if you are going to trade down at all. And SF would not take #3 if they could get #2. So, I agree, not 100%, but pretty much at this point there is very little doubt Jets are going QB at #2, whether they keep Sam or not. I agree, Fields is still a possibility. The reason why 49ers moved to #3, is because they feel there are 3 really good QB prospects in this draft, presumably Lawrence, Wilson, and Fields. While it is more likely Wilson will be #2, it's not a lock just yet. What we know is that the Jets will be picking a QB. That is pretty conclusive at this point. But Fields is still in play for #2.
Okay, that is fair. Douglas is definitely taking a risk. A big one too considering what the 49ers gave up to move to 3. Hope it pays off. I feel the risk is equal with Wilson, Fields, Lance or Jones though. I wanted Douglas and Saleh to pick the guy they felt would be best in LaFleur's offense and who will have the best career. Looks like they feel it is Zach Wilson. I do too, with Fields being close behind him. I haven't seen enough of Lance and I don't get the hype with Mac Jones.
No, the "haul" would've had to have been more than what SF gave up to Miami. It's not just one more spot higher, it's having the choice of all other QBs (or other players) than TL - that's worth a lot more than what SF gave up.
49ers moving to 3 has zero bearing on what JD's doing at 2. JD did not give SF an 'inside scoop' on what he's doing. Come on now. SF trading to 3 is identical to Mac trading to 3. 'Get close', that's all. No one said in 18 "Jets trading to 3 definitely means the Giants are taking Mayfield at 2". JD's plans are still very tight to the vest. In fact JD may not even know for sure what his finals plans are. Let's see the other prodays. Lets see what offers come in for 2. Let's see what offers come in for Sam. To me, the likelihood of JD taking ANY player at 2 seems slim. Not even for a QB when first, he already has a QB who'd be just as good as any of these guys especially for the 2021 season, and second, he has his pick of any five 2nd tier QBs behind Trevor Lawrence.
The only factor nobody are talking about the trade down is that the Dolphins don't get any asset for this year draft (actually lost a late pick in the process) and are mostly relying on a return for 2023. I mean, a first round pick is a great asset for sure but that does not help now or even next year. Personaly, I would rather see the Jets get an early 2nd pick in this year draft than a 2023 1st round pick at least we get a known tangible asset in the short term and improve one of the billion holes on this team.
If the Jets were to hold at 2 and take a right tackle with our current situation I would seriously question JD as a GM. I could live with a trade back to do something like that, but there’s no way doing something like that at 2 overall would be a good decision. I don’t care how good of a player he is, it just wouldn’t make sense when we could get a haul for 2 overall and also have a QB need ourselves
Fair, I think you meant to say Wilson not Watson in your post. Some feel Lance is also in play and might have the highest ceiling of all. The fact that for Wilson pro day and not Lance all the top three Jets decision makers were in attendance tells me something. Will see who goes to Fields, hopefully same three.
I don't agree with you at all. There was a big story about the Mac trade. Mac was in communication with the Giants and they were sold on Barkley. They knew Barkley was going to the Giants. When Cleveland selected Baker, Mac reportadely panicked because Denver was in love with Darnold. Mac jumped up to grab Darnold thinking Elway would snag him immediately. Where I think you are wrong is the communication between Philly and JD. JD is good friends with Roseman and it has been reported everywhere that Philly has been trying to trade up to the top 3 for Wilson for weeks. Why would they suddenly trade back to #12? They know JD is taking Wilson. Wilson was the only reason they would trade up to #2 or #3. No chance they traded back to #12 unless they knew Wilson would be gone and taken by the Jets
