I agree for the most part. What it will tell us is his true height and weight and his arm strength. I remember Teddy B dropping like a brick after his pro day because of arm strength. It will not tell us much more. I would love to see a 7v7 type pro day where said QB has to throw in tight windows. I would even go as far as saying if I was a lower QB prospect why wouldn't I do something like this.
I agree with you, but this year Pro Day a little more important than normal. With covid and no combine, this is first chance coaches get 1 on 1 time and interviews, on top of physical measurements. Character, interview and testing knowledge will be key factors only occurring at Pro Days really this year. on a side note, How are medical evaluations being handled? Also at Pro Days?
So all the big guns are present, that at least tells us we are seriously thinking of drafting Wilson. Interesting to see if same group will attend Fields' pro day.
He’s terrific, can make all the throws, best ever. But they already knew that. Let the hype continue. Oh by the way he’s a great kid.
This is draft season. The new kids are always the next superstar. Let's be honest, it's not and never will be a perfect science. I just recently looked back at the other great QB pro day and college highlights, etc. It is really almost impossible to figure out why some player turn out as superstar and other as complete failure. We casual fans underestimate the mental aspect of the athlete and the subsequent player development once they are drafted. I mean Aaron Rodgers did look like a robot out of college and that was one of the 'reason' he dropped but he was still a great college QB. He corrected a lot of it and became more confident in his abilities. Mahomes pro day and even his college highlights showed a kid with great self confidence but nothing out of the extraordinary that tell you he is the next one. Even his now famous arm strenth is not that evident to identify. The one guy that stoud out was Josh Allen bomb of an arm. You could not miss out on pro day and on his highlights but the accuracy was legit concerns. My point being that Fields or Wilson or another QB might be the next big bust or HoF but it is almost impossible to identify just based on highlights and pro day throws. The main factor are their abilities to adjust, develop and use their attributes to become great players. I do believe that the team is important. I do think that if we took Josh Allen instead of Sam Darnold we would have ruined Josh Allen too and possibly Darnold would have a great looking career with Buffalo. Same with Mahomes with the Jets instead of the Chiefs.
Mike Shanahan was one of the first guys to speak about Mahomes as the next FQB for any football team. I’ll try and find the article and post it. I remember some of his quotes about Mahomes...”he has what you can’t teach, great instinctual play and is never looking to run when he leaves the pocket, he’s always looking to make a play downfield” “ he’s very fluid in the pocket and always steps up, most rookie QBs step back and cost their offense yards” Shanahan was big on Mahomes talent, the problem is we as fans just don’t have enough insight or experience like Shanahan or Reid, to understand the context in which they see QBs decision making.
This is where your eyes play tricks on you I guess. He’s basically the same weight as Lawrence but 3 inches shorter… In my head Wilson was always a little too “skinny“ but I never once thought that about Lawrence.
He did took on some weight lately then. He was a skinny boy most of his college career, he had to have a strict diet prior to college and he hired a nutritionist to help him design a program put on some weight.
It'll be interesting to see how Lawrence holds up if he runs with the same contact seeking style he had in college. He ran over some linebackers in college but he has a pretty narrow framed upper body. NFL linebackers are a whole different animal.
NYJFOREVER: "Hey, boss, I got a fever. What should I do?" Boss: "Oh No!!! You should probably stay home and watch Zack Wilson's proday. If you could come in afterwards, that'd be great"
Great idea to dedicate a thread to this today, Brook! I am sure everyone in TGG will be very interested in seeing and talking about how Zach looks today! Thanks!
Just be grateful you got it, BroadwaySam. Plenty of people are still struggling to even get an appointment!
