Pick 2: Zach Wilson, QB, BYU Pick 23: Alijah Vera-Tucker, OG/OT, USC Pick 34: Tyson Campbell, CB, Georgia TRADE: Sam Darnold and Pick #66 to the Broncos for Pick #40 and a conditional 4th rounder that can move to a 3rd rounder depending on starts/if he beats out Drew Lock. Pick 40: Whyatt Davis, OG, Ohio State Pick 86: Tylan Wallace, WR, Oklahoma State Pick 107: Demetric Felton, RB, UCLA I can see some people looking two interior linemen as overkill with all the other needs this team has, but this team has done best when it has invested heavily on the OL and let's be honest, no one likes our guards at all lol. The way the market has dried up, I don't see a team offering a 2nd outright for Darnold, so we'll make the most out of a less than ideal situation. If you prefer more bodies and/or you don't think Denver would pull the trigger on this, their 3rd rounder (pick 71) is essentially worth the same on the draft charts as the 40/66 swap. I've seen some people compare Wallace to Brandon Ayiuk so it's someone that would seem to be a good fit late in the third. I'm not sure you can get a true 3-down RB in round 4, plus Adams/Johnson did flash late in the draft, so I like the idea of an added pass catching dimension with Felton.
Good job! I like it a lot. I like the addition of Felton. He would give a nice infusion of speed and receiving ability. An alternative would be Javian Hawkins, RB. He is a burner. The only pick I may not be wild about is Tylan Wallace. I haven't watched any film on him, but didn't like the scouting reports that I've read on him. I'll check out film on him. Instead of two OGs, did you give any consideration to drafting an OG and a RT? I think adding Vera-Tucker would be great, and then I'd add a RT, maybe Jalen Mayfield if he's there. Another way you could go is take Teven Jenkins at #23 and then Wyatt Davis at #40. Jenkins could probably play RG for a year or two and then move to RT after Fant's contract is up. Cameron Clarke may be able to beat out Lewis for the LG spot. Love the Sam trade too, getting another 2nd round pick.
Who the backup would be probably depends on what you emphasize. If you prefer familiarity with the LeFluer/Shanahan style offense then C.J. Beathard is a good fit. If you prefer the veteran mentor, you have A.J. McCarron, Colt McCoy and Chase Daniel. The cap savings from a Darnold trade is more than enough to sign any of the players listed above.
I did think of Vera-Tucker as a possible RT. Admittedly OL play is far from my expertise, so I'll defer on that one. The more I see, the more I kinda doubt Vera-Tucker makes it to 23 anyway. The other receiver I did think about, though Round 3 is awfully early for him is Ihmir Marsette-Smith. He's raw, but with the Keelan Cole signing, he can learn from the sidelines, while being an immediate help on special teams. Honestly the WR position is so deep, trying to figure out which one(s) will fall is tricky.
Came out the gate hot. Like your first 3 picks. You're right our guards won't push anyone around. Davis would add some beef and also another Davis to the Law Firm of Davis, Davis and Davis already on the Jets. Not sure about Wallace and Felton with Coleman coming onboard they might need a different type of RB. Nice job again.
JD waited too long and Beathard is signing with the Jaguars. If he wants a QB familiar with the Shanahan system, it will have to be Nick Mullens.
Yes, I agree that we'll be VERY lucky if Vera-Tucker makes it to #23. I had forgotten that he could possibly play RT in the NFL. I'm no expert on the OL, either, just think it would be a crime to not get our future RT out of this strong OT class, and that he could probably play RG for a year or two. Ihmir Smith-Marsette would be a great add imo, but if what I've read about him is accurate, he probably won't get drafted until the 5th round, maybe later. He's a real burner, and would be another great gunner and return man on STs and could have some time to develop before he has to play on offense. I think at this point Javian Hawkins and he are my two favorite players who I've seen projected to go in the 5th - 6th round area. Of course, with our luck, watch them go in the 3rd or 4th and we miss out on them.
I’m not very High on Vera Tucker. I think he’s overrated. Pretty much done drafting USC players in general LOL I’d rather take Creed Or Hainsey in the 2nd/3rd round respectively
