I see you've walked back your "Wilson should be a mid round pick at best" take from a couple days ago.
I agree with pretty much everything here with one caveat. Wilson has mastered an offense he’s been playing in for 3 years. So I take that into heavy consideration when comparing their processing speeds. Also when both get to the pros the whole learning curve reset anyway. Both will start at pretty much ground zero. There’s nothing about Fields that would lead me to think he can not be coached up. Everything I’ve seen & read leads me to the opposite. Dude is talking about running a 4.3 at the Combine at his size; that’s some mutant sh!t. I rather enter stadiums w/ an X-men wearing green and white than having to go against one.
Easy : stronger arm, more mobile, better at throwing in motion, faster release, spatial awareness, more precise in deep throws, throwing motion (can adjust his motion and still be incredibly accurate) and younger more room to grow physicaly (baby face and very lean body). His upside is through the roof. Mac Jones advantage : Level of competition and better ability to place his ball in tight space. For the record, I also love Mac Jones and I have already pointed out that I would not mind a trade down to get him but at this point it would be idiotic to pass on a talent like Zach Wilson. Nobody is perfect but if you don't see it but somehow many scouts and pro can see it maybe you should question your judgement or watch all his throws (like I did). For the record, I watched all throws from Mac Jones, Justin Fields, Zach Wilson and Trevor Lawrence.
I like Fields for his physical atttibutes and his strong arm but I have major concern regarding his football IQ. I think he can be effective in a similar fashion as Lamar Jackson in a run heavy option with the occasional deep throws. I have some RG3 vibe with Fields. I think people look too much at his physical attributes but forget the mental aspect of it.
Scouts work for teams. People in the media are analysts. The same ones that ranked Darnold and Mayfield 1,2, Rosen 3, and Allen and Jackson 4,5. Just because people in the media agree doesn't mean its right. You left things off of Jones's advantages such as consistency year to year, healthier, and postseason experience/success. Wilson doesn't throw a better ball than Jones.
yet you list zero injuries hes played thru. i dont know how durable zach is... and neither do you thats all brees has gheld up and he'seasy 2 inches shorter
This questionable football IQ narrative is unfounded IMO but we’ll have to let it play out to see if those concerns were indeed valid.
Many people had Jake Allen over the pack. I know I did. I will clarify something from the 2018 draft. It was way overrated for QB. I think this year is way better. I would take Wilson over any QB from 2018 and only Trevor Lawrence above him. You write like you know the truth. I think you misplace so much hate toward Wilson for some reason. I had pretty unfavorable opinion toward Zach too before watching his tape. Rich white kid, injury prone, not tall/strong enough, not good enough competition and then I watched the tape. The guy football IQ is through the roof and he does have Mahomesque ability to throw the ball. I wish he had a little bit more zip in his throw but that is being nit picky. Watch him for yourself : It speaks for itself, I truly believe you just want to find excuses to hate on the kid.
I see a guy that force many throws and has a hard time playing his receivers open. That is why he is statistically the QB that took the longest time to throw the ball in college this year. Best arm strength in college though. If we do get him I will be 100% behind him for sure but I just prefer Zach Wilson above him and to me it is not that close.
I guess that’s one interpretation of why he holds on to the ball. Also for a guy that forces throws he sure has a high CMP% & very low INT rate. His stats in those areas seem to be contrary to what one would expect from a guy that forces things.
For the record I don't hate Wilson. I wouldn't take him at 2 is all. If we could get him at 15 or something that would be about worth the risk.
He will never get past 3rd overall. If for some reason the Jets pass on him, the Dolphins would receive so many trade offers for him.
i get it , matt stafford is superhuman cam gets injured too.... no tiny frame there joe montana was no bodlily specimen... there are many many examples u are worried about his size/injury potential. registered.
Well I assume the whole precipice of this discussion is that the Jets like the QBs, but trading down is a legitimate option as well. Obviously if JD thinks Wilson/Fields/Lance are trash, he'll trade back, and I dont think anyone would have an issue with that mindset. My issue is, why would you kick the can down the road on the chance that Darnold has a historically great turnaround, when there is no guarantee you'll be in position to draft a QB you like next year. It just feels like burning the year just to give Sam another chance.
I think it can work both way. The Jets can afford to keep Sam around and still select a new franchise QB. If Sam perform next year, great, the Jets could even afford to franchise tag him next year and then re-sign and keep him long term or trade him away to the highest bidder.
