None of these guys were taken top 5 and all of them had solid starters on their teams when they were drafted.
Regardless there are success stories & failures on both sides of the coin. Not to mention the fact I have a hard time believing Rodgers & Mahomes would have failed if not for sitting.
And? What is your point? That if you select a player at 11th overall you can sit him for a year but not at 2nd overall?
These new jack athletes only think about themselves. I doubt Darnold factored into his contract details.
The reason Mahomes didn't start week 1 was they still had a lot of money tied up with Alex Smith that they wanted to get value from. It was a luxury for the Chiefs to be able to sit Mahomes.
Impossible to tell.. but there have been many cases of promising QBs selected very high failing to adapt to the NFL. There is a significant difference between the NFL and college football, it can kill all your confidence if you are thrown to the wolves. Actually it is very hard to crawl back when you fail.
Well you can take a QB second overall and sit him a year. But that is a pretty good indicator that he wasn't worth the second pick. You realize the difference between picking 11 and picking 2 right?
He had options. The QB is always a factor. He will be in SoCal working with Sam by the end of this week.
People will not fault you on the process. We have had enough of drafting the less premium positions. The QB position needs the Jet's full attention. With Saleh being a rookie head coach you know he wants to get out the box fast. But he's also a defensive coach and we have seen how those guys only want to build up the defense.
Luxury that paid off. We somehow can afford that luxury too! I simply don't get your point. By that logic all the teams did well to pass on Mahomes because he might have to sit a year to adapt and he was not worth it... It is not a sprint you know even less with QB, you want the best raw talent you never get the finished product.
Shoot I was glad we at the very least drafted an offensive player. Wasn’t the last offensive player we drafted in the 1st round prior to Sam was Sanchez almost a decade earlier? No wonder our QBs struggle in recent history. SMH
Were talking about value for draft position. If you don't rate a QB as a year 1 starter then he is not worth the #2 pick. Look at Herbert last season. They knew he was a week 1 starter, and they took him at 6th. Yet were are considering using the 2nd pick on someone we don't even rate that high. Were on shaky ground with this.
If there's a quarterback who's guaranteed to have to sit a year but then become a Hall of Famer, is he worth the #2 pick? Yes or no.
Your argument is completely incoherent. Again you're using your own opinions as gospel and not even leaving open the possibility that other opinions may be correct. Some think a QB should ideally sit a year no matter who they are, some think the best thing is to throw them to the wolves and learn on the job. There are examples of both succeeding and of both failing. It's largely irrelevant when considering whether the #2 pick is worth using on a QB you think will be good.
