I didn't see this anywhere in the thread, but a few days ago Fields ran a 4.41 while training. He said later that he'll run in the 4.3's on his 3/30 pro day.
I think people are going to go back and forth between Wilson and Fields at 2 for weeks. Watson and Mahomes again. I would take either, but I think Fields is the guy
Miami is going to get another first next year ffs! They are going to cash is on that 3rd overall pick. Jags-Lawrence NYJ-Wilson ???-Fields
They still need to cash in on all of these picks as we do. They had a rather unspectacular draft last year. Slot corner reached at the backend of the third that got benched (with two high paid corners on the roster already), two massive "run blocking guards" that couldn't push a grocery cart out of the way last year and an unspectacular tackle who struggles in pass protection.
Yes Lamar is a little faster, and also has a great natural elusiveness. But I definitely put Fields closer to Jackson than Newton as an athlete. He has excellent burst and change of direction, and with his greater size it’s a rare combination. He is a better passer than Lamar ever was in college, and the reason I don’t think he needs as much time on the bench as Wilson is the rushing threat he brings. In an successful outside zone attack, the opportunities to fold in keeper plays with the run-action concepts just gives the play callers so many options without requiring a lot of complicated whole field reads from him. He is a lot more explosive than Cam in my opinion. I understand the comparison but I think he’s physically a hybrid between Jackson and Newton, and a better college passer than either. To me, I don’t know how to say no to that.
Cam that year he won mvp was unbelievable he pretty much was slinging it and running it any way he wanted too. Lamar the year he won mvp he mostly did it with his legs. I’d take cam mvp over Lamar mvp any day. Way better arm and quarterback play. He also had that physical presence that was beast mode. I see that same physical presence and arm strength in fields. Where Cam has the edge on Fields is that he has much better anticipation and gets the ball out faster. Fields has issues with anticipation and reading progressions fast enough to get the ball out. Fields release also could be shortened up a bit. In the nfl if you hold the ball for more than 2 seconds your toast. Pass rushers are too good.
Well it seems like you’re comparing NFL Cam and NFL Lamar to Ohio State Fields. I’m comparing Auburn Cam and Louisville Lamar to Ohio State Fields
In Dane Brugler's most recent mock draft he has the Jets trading Sam. "Dane Brugler dropped his latest mock draft today. He made things spicy with the Jets. No, there’s no Deshaun Watson acquisition. He has the Jets making their selection at No. 2. But … there’s a trade. Brugler mocked a Jets – 49ers deal. Joe Douglas moved up to No. 12, acquiring a 2022 second-round pick as well, in exchange for Sam Darnold and No. 23. The first Jets pick: BYU quarterback Zach Wilson. Their second: Northwestern offensive tackle Rashawn Slater." I doubt SF would make that trade but if they do, I'd love it! That would be awesome to get the #12 pick and a second round pick next year. Slater would be awesome. He could start at RG immediately, and when Fant's contract is up, could move to RT.
I would absolutely love that trade but I don’t think we will get a pick swap and a 2nd for him. Plus they still would have Jimmy G on their books. If that deal were to happen I think Jimmy comes back our way and we start him for a year while we develop Wilson. I’ve been analyzing everything and to me that makes just too much sense. Something is going to go down soon because I think the deal will get done for Sam before the 5th year option deadline
This is what the ever-reliable (*cough*) Bucky Brooks thinks... https://www.nfl.com/news/bucky-broo...0-jets-pass-on-qbs-in-favor-of-penei-sewell-a It would almost be worth it to see the meltdown on here.
I am convinced that the Northwestern lineman (Slater) is better than Sewell. I would be pissed if this is the move
It would not. Especially when we don’t take Etienne because our GM is Captain Cliche and you “don’t take an RB in round 1” because you can “find an RB on day 3” when you “build through the draft and don’t spend in FA”
Seems to have worked for every single team that has run the offense we're installing for the past 3 decades.
Slater would probably fit this system better, but I think Sewell is the better overall prospect. Both players are worthy of top 10 picks. Not that any of it matters. The Jets are going QB at #2 overall. If they were rolling with Darnold I think they at the very least would have targeted a high-end backup to push him.
I liked Wilson a lot more when he was looking like the 3rd, 4th or 5th QB off the board. At 2 he’s too rich for my blood. Post Lawrance vs Fields. Which one better for the Jets? Post by: legler82, Oct 30, 2020 in forum: Draft This draft is going to test my QB “guru” status. Though I’m not Mahomes in love with Fields but I see him as the clear better overall talent compared to Wilson, Lance, Jones...etc. Didn’t think that would end up being a controversial take but I guess now it has. My position on Fields vs the rest of the QB field sans Lawrence is similar to my position on Josh Allen vs the QB class back then. I feel you draft the best talent and put the onus on your coaches to maximize said talent but what do I know.
