Had 8 sacks last time he was healthy and played/started a full season but... that was two years ago. I’d say it’s a high upside signing but 2 years, $17 mil is kinda... not that great. So we spend on underachievers at a position we’re stacked at but cheap out on good players at positions we desperately need. Consider me skeptical of JD two offseasons in.
It would be great if this guy could live up to his potential. Will hope for the best. So just a guess, by halving his contract by season, that means we got somewhere in the neighborhood of 3 million left to play with. Does that sound right?
Looks like JFM is going to be the strongside end. If Rankins is healthy that's a pretty good 3rd down pass rushing package if all breaks well.
Yep, DA Osorio on turn on the Jets nailed this one last week recommending this move. Rankings will play the NT role in the 4-3 with Williams as a hand on the dirt DT and JFM and Fatukasi battling for the DE spot. Pressure will be there no doubt. Our D will hold its on this year. CB with the draft. I also sense another move coming. I bet they split the 17M with the higher hit to the cap in 2022 if he stays healthy. curious to see the how much is guaranteed.
Huff or JFM. I don’t understand what this means for Fatukasi though. He’s been phenomenal. A three down player. Saleh very much trying to recreate that Niners DL. Hopefully Lawson opens things up for Q/Rankins and vice versa.
Guidry might get the nod over Bless, he was more impactful than Austin and is faster than Bless. They won’t be playing a lot of man to man so the scheme is definitely user friendly for the secondary, just don’t let anything get behind them. It’s like playing left wing lock in hockey!
This signing has Saleh written all over it. He's building a similar front line like he had in San Fran.
A quick search shows that Rankins last 2 seasons, and 4 out of his 5, have ended on IR. I hope we didn't overpay because when healthy he has an upside.
Kind of like it a lot. Beats that crazy ass all out blitz approach with no time left on fourth down, completely destroying 90 minutes of great effort by our defense.
