I agree with you 100%. Part of the problem is that these coaches/GMs are on such a hot seat at the start because they are most likely coming into a shitty organization if they are drafting a brand new QB on a team that sucks. Most of them feel like they don't have the time to let their new shiny toy sit on the bench for a year and learn.
Not against the idea of drafting a rookie and having him sit but all the placeholder QBs are being grabbed up quickly and the Jets have made no moves for one yet
Feet and mechanics problems have been talked about a lot too. You can see it when he throws. He looks like shit a lot of times even when he makes a good throw.
More and more, I'm getting used to and excited about having this kid in NY! 1. He can flat out sling it 2. Great anticipation, arm angles, can throw with people in his face 3. No happy feet, he sets, has a great base and looks damn good throwing unlike our signal caller for the last 3 abysmal years. 4. The Jets keep ALL 1st round draft picks. For a rebuilding team, this is absolutely enormous.
The more I watch this kid on tape the more impressed you are with his arm. The kid still looks like he has not yet grown into his man body and I am afraid of his durability. Fields 8 day release will cause him to struggle but his running ability can cover for this. Wilson has a chance to be special.
I really think the size concerns with Wilson are overblown. He's 6'3 and is going to weigh 215-220. That's not small by any means.
I think he will come around 6'2", hoping not below that. Similar size to Watson and Mahomes (thought Mahomes might be a bit heavier). https://nflcombineresults.com/playerpage.php?f=Deshaun&l=Watson&i=22529 https://nflcombineresults.com/playerpage.php?f=Patrick&l=Mahomes&i=22408
We do need a good offensive line, but Wilson took some BIG hits last year and seems fine. The shoulder injury he had was not from a hit. Granted, I definitely do not want him to get hit, but I don't think he is made of glass either.
Wilson, Watson, Wilson our head is spinning. Nothing we've seen in the past year should make us doubt that the present Jets management doesn't have a plan. It may involve a new QB or not. But I will root for the team to do well regardless. But I still think they should stick with Sam and draft Pitts. But unlike most fans I'll leave it to the people who do it for a living.
With so much talent in the top 10, I would consider trading back if we ended up with at least 2 top 10 picks. Otherwise, I have no desire to trade the #2 pick for players we can only get in the top 10. I would like to draft Pitts/Waddle. Then decide between Mack or Mond to be the QB. ha ha Or just take Wilson at 2 and trade into the top 10. I want Pitts or Waddle since I feel those 2 will most likely be there between 6-9. I love the CBs there but feel we can get a good in the 2nd round. Parsons at LB is a good pick too. Kellen Mond is very intriguing when you watch his highlights. Then you look at his stats and wonder why they don't look that good. He did play against very tough defenses and does take lots of chances in between defenders with his throws. Reminds me of Baker Mayfield. Mac is just solid all around without the great running ability, but it seems like he's smart enough to know when to escape the pressure. Trading down is beginning to grow on me since I'm starting to really like Mond and Mac. My preference is to take Wilson at 2 then trade back into the top 10 to take either Pitts or Waddle. I would trade for 3 top 12 picks if I could. But then we most likely would have to give up #2. I'm just throwing it out there in case JD decides to become the gamblin' man. I see people with the trade down scenario but then only talk about acquiring picks. Well, If you were to trade down, where would you like us to trade to? what would you do if we traded down? No more Darnold, please. Trading out of the #2 spot which Darnold help us earn is not realistic. We get no #2 and Sam Darnold. No thanks. I want some creativity!
These are the 2 scenarios I would like to see Keep #2 Trade into the top 10 QB-Wilson Pitts or Waddle but Pitts first Trade #2 plus other picks we get from 2 and Darnold 1.Pitts 2.Waddle 3.Mac or Mond
I agree with most of this except the trading back up. We have too many holes to be giving up prime picks like that. Like you, I prefer staying at #2 and taking Wilson, but my gut tells me this isn't what Douglas will do. I too would be okay trading back into the 6-9 range, grabbing a QB there that I liked, and having another first rounder to fill with a great WR, pass rusher, CB, OL.
