I'm against the "scout the helmet" thing but can we really say it doesn't mean a thing given that he wasn't required to do what NFL QB's have to do at Ohio State? Surely that means something when projecting how he'll perform in the NFL right? I'm not saying he can't do those things but not having to do so consistently in college would certainly lead us to believe he'll have a learning curve in the NFL at the very least.
No. OSU ran more of a spread offense the last two seasons. A very similar offense that Clemson ran. You project the player. Not the scheme the player was In. Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields were In the same offensive scheme essentially. By that logic, you would need to also apply It to Trevor Lawrence. You wouldn't question him though, would you?
i should have said it would be soj for me. them picking a guy i really dont like and dont think will be a great nfl qb. the whole idea should be to get a qb who can be a top 5 guy and lead you to championships. especially before you have to pay him big bucks.
If Douglas takes Wilson at #2 (which I hope he does), you have a bigger problem to worry about don't you? I mean if JD thinks such a lousy QB should be the #2 pick, you'd have to really question his judgment. I think Douglas has a better handle of judging talent than any of us do.

I'm not saying you can't or shouldn't express your opinion. Sorry if that's how it sounded. I have the feeling that Douglas is going to confound a lot of us here.
But do we really know JD has some special eye for talent? He already admitted to not judging Robbie's value correctly. His FA signing last season were below average and his draft about average. TBH some of the posters on this board have had better recognition of talent then JD. I know hindsight is 20/20 but JD has not proven anything yet.
Yeah, I feel very safe in saying that Douglas has a better eye for talent than posters here, especially when coupled with the knowledge of what kind of players he's looking for. As for Anderson being a "mistake", he admitted that maybe it was, but at the same time losing him didn't really have a major impact on the season, which I'm sure Douglas factored into his decision to let him go. Yes, the jury is still out on JD, and we'll have a very good body of evidence after this offseason to judge him on. He needs to do have a really good draft to quell the doubts of those already doubting him.
i just hope whatever they do its the right move. i feel confident in this front office. i have my own thoughts on what i want. i remember when we drafted sanchez i hated it. i spent a year hating it and then had a stretch of like 5 games where he played really well and i said oh i might be wrong on this one. and naturally once i said that he was doomed i hated it in part because i was on here arguing with people, especially the guy in my profile pic for what seemed like years. either way i dont want to do that again. in all honesty i dont want to be right, i want douglas to be right.
