The only outliers were Portis in the second then after 2 seasons they flipped him for Champ Bailey and Tatum Bell (2nd), then shortly after turned Tatum Bell into Dre Bly. That offensive blocking scheme bought them an All Star secondary. Which we all know is a waste of money but still.
Additionally, only five of the top 40 rushers (excluding Lamar Jackson, Cam Newton and Kyler Murray) were first round picks. Zero in the top seven. That includes Robinson (UDFA), Jones (5th) and Montgomery (3rd). Melvin Gordon, Ezekiel Elliott, Josh Jacobs, Adrian Peterson and Todd Gurley.
At this point, are there any OG and CB left in free agency worth getting to upgrade our roster or are we about done? Looks like our youth movement is in full swing. Perhaps a few rookies/youngsters could find a bigger or starting role under the new HC staff. Wonder how the new CS sees the likes of Josh Adams, Perrine, Johnson and Cameron Clark, could Cameron be a starter for us?
It would definitely be awesome to sign him. We'd possibly have the best and deepest safety corps in the NFL, and would give Saleh all kinds of variations and wrinkles he could employ in his D. Come on, JD, surprise everyone and make this happen. Break open the piggy bank.
Good. There are too many excellent RBs in the draft, we didn't need Lindsay. I'd rather have the money for Fuller and Neal.
Why? For the life of me, I can't understand why you guys wanted to sign a 26-year old RB, when there are a wealth of quality RBs in the draft, and RB is the easiest position for a rookie to come in, start day one and play at a high level. We don't Lindsay or any other veteran RB. We have veterans in Johnson and Adams, both of whom are very good fits for this offense. I wouldn't mind getting rid of Perine, but I doubt that JD and the Jets give up on him this soon. JD can draft one of Kenneth Gainwell, MIchael Carter, Jaret Patterson, Chuba Hubbard, and Jermar Jefferson and their rushing attack should be very good.
It's pretty bad when you need to combine two guys to put together a highlight film and it still barely makes two minutes.
In terms of CBs, Richard Sherman, K'waun Willians, and Brian Poole are still there. Have AJ Bouye, Casey Heyward and Xavier Rhodes just lost their speed and skill with age or injuries, or are they just not a fit in our zone D or want too much money? Has Forrest Lamp just been a bust in the NFL? If so, is it because he wasn't a good fit for SD's scheme or what is the problem? He was very highly rated by the media at least and I think was a 2nd round pick.
I would hate Carson honestly and glad we didn't get him. Surprised there was any interest, doesn't seem to fit the scheme at all.
I don't know anything about him really. I just looked him up, saw that he had been with Seattle since 2017 but his stats are pedestrian. I can't figure out the attraction, either. He must be fast, and be the type of RB they're looking for.
That's the thing, that's why it's weird. He's not fast and doesn't look explosive. Looks like a plodder. Anyway the niners board loves K'waun Williams, hope we steal him away... https://www.49erswebzone.com/forum/niners/188138-cb-kwaun-williams/page37/
Carson is fast enough, definitely not a burner, but he's a tough m'fer who trucks people. He's the kind of blue collar player that JD loves.
He runs like Ivory did but he's a bit better in every facet and he can catch the ball. He's a walking injury because of it though. I can't see Carson having many years left especially because he plays through a lot of shit.
