They won last year's Super Bowl with that electric offense and came back from a 24 point deficit in the divisional game.
and lost to the team that had a better defense and more well rounded. the top QB in the NFL, top 2 TE, and top 5 WR put up 3 FGs in the SB. it's the old saying offense wins games, defense wins championships. it still stands. more often and not when you get to the playoffs all teams have good offenses it's the ones with better defenses that win the SB.
The Bucs had a great offense too, though. They won because they had an elite offense AND a better defense than the Chiefs (+Chiefs missing 2 starters at OL). I don't think that's the best example to show that offense isn't as important as defense. If you look at the final 4 teams in the playoffs last year and really every playoff team the common denominator was a good offense.
yes they did have a great offense. they were just a stacked team. RJ and fournette at RB. gronk and brate at TE, Evans, godwin, and brown at WR, and a top 5 o-line. plus brady piloting the team. Even with that said brady only threw for 201 yards. no WR had more then 31 yards. evans led the WR group with 1 catch for 31 yards. their entire WR group had a total of 79 yards between 3 pro bowl WRs. They won with defense, a run game, and using the TEs/RBs catching the ball who combined for 139 yards between fournette, brate, and gronk. If anything that TB win makes the case for o-line, defense, RB and TE over QB and WR.
yeah that part sucked. brady probably caused it somehow. still mahomes had shown time and time again he will make shit happen. he was let down by his entire team. the stats for mahomes looked bad but he actually outplayed brady by quite a bit. his WRs dropped balls left and right his o-line gave him no time and he was still out there balling even gimpy
DWC was the boy who cried wolf. Now there is an actual wolf and nobody believes it. That wolf is the Miami Dolphins. I'd say their odds of taking Smith are about 50% now. If they get Smith things will be hard on us for the next decade, and it will piss me off because it will be freakin Miami. One of the main reasons Tua was drafted so high was because of guys like Smith. Tua and Smith are already used to each other, have their timing down, and chemistry. The dolphins reuniting Tua and Smith would do wonders for both Tua and the dolphins. Probably make them a SB contender. Ironically, one of the key reasons Mac Jones is projected so low is because people say he had Smith to throw to. Even though Jones was a Heisman runner up. Isn't QB the most important position on the team? Here we have a situation where people are suggesting these QBs were at least in part the product of a WR. That is a special player.
Its all about QBs. Okay how about this: Devonta Smith at 2 Mac Jones at 23 Javonte Williams at 34 Trey Smith at 66 That would turn us into a genuine grab your popcorn offense. Truth is we need to trade #2 and then pick Smith.
I could get behind a draft like this, but I just have the feeling that Douglas isn't going to rain love on the "O" like this.
I agree. I got a feeling he is going to rain love on the o-line, which we need. IMO this is an offense heavy draft so I'd go mostly offense this year, to help a young QB whenever we get him, and then defense next year.
Everybody's talkin at me. I don't hear a word there saying. Just drivin around in Jon Voights car. So the dolphins have kicked, punched, and stomped on JD so far this draft. But who cares when we can talk about the coming messiah of QBs. I'll tell ya one thing, that messiah is certainly going to be dining with publicans and sinners on this team. We got a brand new really expensive car and we are going all gas, no brake, right into a wall. Anyone who thinks its time to reach for our next franchise QB didn't watch the last 3 seasons. They didn't watch the Bills rebuild. They didn't watch the Dolphins rebuild. They just spin around in the same green backwater. The way things are going now the saying, "in JD we bust" will be in vogue in 2 seasons. But hey, why build a championship team when you can get a collectors version of Patrick Mahomes. Here is a prophecy for you. Everyone who gets labelled the next Patrick Mahomes is going to disappoint. In reality, the analysts wont see the next Mahomes coming. So where is the Chiefs team the next Mahomes is going to play on? The 2021 Jets? Dark days ahead folks, dark days indeed. We are led by a rookie GM who is in over his head. As things are going now I seriously doubt in his ability to evaluate talent or build a championship team. Fortunately for the rest of the fans - I'm simply cray cray. JD is the best! Its just that outside of trading one pro bowler its really hard to tell. IMO Saleh is the real chance to succeed. The fact that 4 out of our last 5 HCs have been rookie defensive coordinators be damned. This ones brand new and that makes all the difference. Besides, after Gase the bar is so low that we can only improve, and I'd say it will be by at least by two wins. Maybe our plan is to keep picking top 10 every year until we have a good team? Gotta build through the draft you know. Cue the week before opening day when the "10-6 and wildcard" predictions start to arrive. I know I'll be one of them. In reality that will be our ceiling under JD. Nevermind that we could have had our choice of the best skill player in this draft, plus 3 more top 44 picks, 7 top 80 picks, and 3 first rounders next year. That is an awful way to build a champion. You need a messiah QB folks. Only he can forgive you sins and lead you to the promise land - even if it costs the farm. Except this is football and not religion. Only good teams win superbowls - not good QBs. You throw away the best chance we have ever had to build a good team then who cares what QB we get. Its already clear we are being poorly built by a rookie GM who is in over his head. If this course continues then JD has a lot in common with Sam. He is a nice guy but he isn't going to take us very far.
