We have just about the most holes of any team in the league to fill (if not the most). There are going to be a lot of those.
Make no mistake, I like Cole, he's just not moving the WR needle all that much unless Davis and Mims REALLY take off and he's just eating up underneath.
Good little player. Has done bits for years and shown his worth as a good JAG in the league. He's a good filler to really add depth to our core. He was very close to matching last year's output by Crowder too. So what if he's on a 1 year deal along with Crowder expiring. There will be more WRs next year, along with whatever we draft this year or next. We still have Mims and Davis for 3 years to set the WR position up for anything we look to add. I'm perfectly fine with adding B/C level talent on short term deals whilst we look to boost our roster for long term success via the draft. 5.5mil is nearly 3mill cheaper than Randall Cobb would be this year. If anything wouldn't we release Berrios, who I assume is now our #3 in the slot? Or is he? I'm not sure Cole was better then Berrios last year. This signing is puzzling and not really improving us. The only thing I can consider is we signed him to release Crowder to save some cash. But releasing Crowder makes us even worse.
Posted this a while back. Studying hard doesn't make you a good player but this seems to be a trend of committed guys that they're signing.
Okay I just checked. Berrios is making 850 thousand next season, and is about as good as the Cole, who we just agreed to pay 5.5 million. This is a terrible signing. Perhaps JDs worst move.
it’s good to have depth btw. Davis Mims Crowder Cole Berrios Smith currently the WR room. Draft another young kid and the WR corps is upgraded very nicely.
Cole is much better depth than Berrios and Perriman. It’s just a depth move imo, as our depth was terrible.
I admit I have no idea who the guy is but cursory inspection of the requisite Youtube highlight videos displays evidence of excellent hands, solid route running and some really nice wheels. Not as down on this signing as I was an hour ago.
How many dropped balls did Berrios have last year? Guy had plenty of opportunities to make impactful plays and simply didn’t. Cole is also a return man, he’s eventually going to to be given a chance to replace Berrios.
Berrios had a higher catch percentage last year, and over his career. They are basically the same player - except we just agreed to pay Berrios #2 eight times the salary of Berrios 1. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/B/BerrBr00.htm https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/C/ColeKe00.htm In 3 seasons Cole has 8 kick returns.
