I wouldn’t even call talented, proven 26-year-olds “stopgaps”. They can easily be here for the next 5-6 years.
Yeah that's the best case scenario for each of them. Probably too much to hope that they all pan out though, and in that case they get backfilled by a young player drafted a year or two down the road.
I wonder what Ju-ju's emergency market looks like? The Jets could cut Crowder to pay for a 1 yr deal with Ju-ju. Give them a year to evaluate whether his down season last year was real or just a glitch. 97 catches and 9 TD's out of a 24 year old is a helluva down season.
agree byz......but we still have to draft much much better which in turn will enhance these back room FA signings.
You are right Douglas only said “opportunistic” in approach. it was Connor Hughes opining he believed that meant seeking players who have not developed as teams had hoped, aka underachievers. I hope Hughes is not correct on that. Although have to say Davis and Davis kinda fit the bill of players that didn’t develop quite as their draft team hoped.
Davis and Lawson are top FA acquisitions though. Day 1 signings among the top available at their positions. Will be more than stop gaps provided their play pans out.
I would take JuJu on. He is very talented. Who cares if he likes social media stuff, all these "kids" do
JuJu is fine but why are we cutting Crowder too? We have a ton of money and with injuries and spread offenses these days you need atleast 4 and probably 5 good and reliable WRs. Davis Mims Crowder Free agent or Rookie The rest can battle it out for the last slot or two
But what about his hamstrings made of penny wire? https://sportsinjurypredictor.com/player/will-fuller/7478 Good player when fit and a great understanding with Watson and then we have the peds issue last season as well.
If he doesn't knock it out of the park with the next 2 drafts then we're probably looking for a new GM in a few years. That's the chance you take when you commit to a full rebuild. Quality of draft is the main factor in success.
Very well said. Some people here will criticize the pick no matter what unless is exactly the person they wanted.....the flashy big name ala Mac his predecessor. As we know that really paid off for us
Both are players that have compiled one solid season that made them desirable and neither were extended beyond their rookie contracts. That the press put them in the top echelon of available players in FA doesn't make them among the best players available.
The timeline couldn't be more perfect for us as I'm sure we'll be announcing Mike Mayock as our next GM around 2024-2025.
They were definitely two of the most desirable free agents at their positions when you consider future potential. Maybe not the absolute best right now, but most would rather have guys coming into their primes with a little gamble vs guys that are proven but on the downside of their careers
Corey Davis was made to be a WR in a LaFleur WCO. Kudos to his reps for seeing the fit and seeing the glut at WR in early free agency and diving on the Jets offer. Lots of agents would have held out early on for a huge deal and gotten buried in the non-market for WR's that has emerged.
