I'm not arguing that signing Thuney wouldn't make Becton and McGovern better, because it would. Stop being a sensationalist and think for a second; signing Thuney to a 100M deal would have been an absolute JOKE.
The Thuney thing I get, commanded a ton of money and went to the Chiefs. Linsley I don't. Especially since Costello is saying we weren't even interested in him. Not even interested?!
The Jets have 1,1,2,3,3,4,5,5,6 selections in this draft, with potentially more who Darnold and if Mosley are traded. That's a lot of players added to the roster.
Just because you sign a 6-year deal, doesn't mean you can wait 6 years to make moves, Joe! Just kidding. Jets fans need to have more patience. It's still early on day 1 of free agency. Wait a few days before you start to complain too much.
He took 80 million to go to a team that went to the Super Bowl this year and has the best QB and offense in the league. You really think it would have taken 81 million for him to go to a team that won 2 games and doesn't even know who their 2021 QB is?
Buddy, he signed with the Chiefs for 80M. The Chiefs have played in back to back Super Bowls, winning one of them. They have an all-world QB who has very good odds of going down in history with the likes of Brady, Manning, and Montana. Do you think that Joe Thuney was signing with the fucking Jets for 80M? No, they would've had to grossly overpay. Give any player the offer that Thuney got and they're picking the Chiefs over the Jets 10/10 times.
Everything has a cost. If we had solidified one of our IOL spots through FA we'd have more freedom to snag a top WR or RB late in the first or in the 2nd round. To not even target Linsley when we have the 2nd most cap space in the league is hard to defend.
I used to care and used to get upset and used to lose years off my life being a fan now I'm just sitting with a box of popcorn. At a certain age you guys will come around.
I'm 23 and I'm already sitting here with a box of popcorn. Watching Jets fans meltdown over not grossly overpaying for Thuney and Linsley is funny.
Linsley was the starting center for Mike LaFleur's brother's team and they just let him walk. You think maybe there was a reason the Jets weren't even rumored to target the guy?
Just to clarify. Thuney choose KC because he obviously wants to win. But it's a 3 year deal worth $48 mil. Still an overpay. But not $80 mil. Not $100 mil.
Not sure what the dilemma is about Linsley and Thuney. You need to draft OL, these guys always go for big bucks in FA. It's about the only position that seems to become more lucrative at age 30.
Joe D has been telling us how he is going to carry out his blueprint for this team, I don’t know if Jet fans and media think it’s just lip service but he has stayed true to his word. I’m expecting a good draft to be honest.
You also have to remember that signing players to big Free Agent Contracts has a big opportunity cost as well. If you go big at IOL, what if for some reason Vera-Tucker is available at 34, or even whatever pick they get for Darnold? Suddenly you’re regretting the 3 years worth of guarantees you handed out. Same is really true for any position when you lack this much talent. That’s why 1 year deals and minimal guarantees are an important part of the Jets strategy early in the rebuild, like last year and this year. I am kind of surprised at some of the deals being signed if numbers are accurate.
