There are some good running backs in this draft and I hope the Jets grab at least two. You got Harris, Gainwell Memphis, Javonte Williams from North Carolina, Etienne of Clemson. I like Gainwell's nice speed and has great hands. Stevenson is also a downhill runner with good hands. This will be almost as pivotal as getting a good QB for this offense. Just don't want to see anymore Frank Gore left and Frank Gore right for 2 yards.
Etienne and Harris are the only two who have a chance at being first round selections. Other than that RBs will drop to late 2nd round or 3rd.
Im guessing Harris will be off the board by the time the Jets even consider a RB. Etienne is a good one. I personally like Williams out of NC. Gainwell does have nice speed I can see this new staff really liking what he brings. I also like Patterson don’t be surprised if the Jets come knocking if he still on the board in the 5th round. I can understand you hoping for two RBs in this draft considering the need and the chance to completely remake the RB room. I don’t see it happening though - not with so many other pressing needs.
We can take one in the fourth or fifth and we still essentially have a brand new runningback room. The three backs heading into camp just spent an entire year buried. I doubt we pick one high enough to get one of the North Carolina backs. Love Najee Harris but I'd imagine he's gone before 20. Rakeem Boyd from Arkansas might be a good find. I imagine Javian Hawkins is destined to be our guy in the fourth or fifth though. Zone specialist with some wheels. And then roll with what we have.
Yes, there are alot of good RBs in this draft, but I wouldn't hold my breath on Douglas drafting 2. The Jets already have 2 RBs on the roster in Perine and Johnson. If they re-sign Josh Adams, that would make 3. That said, I wouldn't be against it at all. In addition to the backs you mentioned, there's Michael Carter of North Carolina, Jaret Patterson of Buffalo, Trey Sermon of Ohio St. There's also Javian Hawkins of Louisville and Chuba Hubbard of Oklahoma St. I'd love to add one of Carter, Gainwell, Sermon, and Williams, and then add Hawkins. I wish we could deep six Perine, but doubt that will happen for a year or two. I would love to add one of Harris or Etienne, but am pretty confident that won't happen unless JD thinks one is just too good to pass up at #23 or #34. I'd be very happy with one of Williams, Carter, Gainwell, Sermon, Hawkins, and maybe Patterson.
I think that Javonte Williams will go before the middle of the 2nd round. Michael Carter may as well.
I don't know where this guy is slotted to go in which round. But he needs to be on the Jets roster. 250 lbs that is shifty and fast.
A good RB with a new QB whoever that may be Wilson , Fields, Watson or Lance would make sense. If LeFluer s offense includes a FB, the. I would imagine the Jets will draft a RB in mid round to complement the passing game.
Not interested in any RB from this class in 1st round. Entienne is likely worth 1,but worry about tread & think surrounding cast does work against him In this case. Harris is a very good player but ive never been blown away w his running style. Also not sure he can live up to the crazy hype. Twitter acts like hes the only RB in this class.Still Could see him going RD 1 Jets have a need for speed. Think the Jets need an elusive back w quickness to the hole, perimeter speed & ability to make people miss in space. Gainwell or Jermar Jefferson from Oregon state who is a bit more of a slasher but good in space & explosive. The bigger back i like is Javonte Williams.Really quick to the hole, good vision & smooth through all 3 levels. For next draft..Kevin Harris from South Carolina has a chance to be special.
I too like Javonte Williams. I also like Harris and Ettienne, but I don't think it makes sense to use a first round pick on RB when there are good ones like Williams that can be had later. What do you think of Trey Sermon?
I love both Harris and Etienne, but agree that we shouldn't take a RB in round 1. I like Gainwell a lot, as well as J. Williams. I hadn't about Jermar Jefferson, so thanks for bringing him to my attention. I think you're right about Trey Sermon. He definitely has a burst, and power, but not so much wiggle. Do you think we need a power back? I know that Shanahan uses a FB. Are you in favor of using a FB? I think Rhamonde Stephenson of Ok St. is supposed to be another power back. What do you think about him? Also, supposedly the Jets have some interest in (or at least they had a Zoom visit with him) Jaret Patterson? I think he scored 7 TDs in a game for Buffalo. I saw the videos of each of the TDs. He looked pretty good and like he might have decent speed, but my memory is hazy on him.
After I saw the following video on Twitter today, I thought that it's a shame that Bilal Powell came along when he did. I think he would be a very good, if not great fit in this offense.
The Jets absolutely need a play maker at RB. This offense is predicated on running the ball. Give me Etienne or Javonte Williams at number 34 and don't look back. I stated this before, but my first three picks would be. 2. Wilson 23. Toney 34. Etienne/Williams Focus on the OL in free agency. Instant new offense. But I'm sure that won't happen. Makes too much sense.
FWIW, Douglas did sign McGovern, Fant, and Van Roten last offseason. And he was reportedly after Thuney before the Pats tagged him.
Oh I know. And I think they will pursue interior OL upgrades this year in FA. I was talking more about my fantasy draft where they would draft three playmakers and instantly transform the offense. Just imagine if in 2017 we drafted Watson, Cook and Godwin. And that's not revisionist history. I was screaming for all three of those players when the pick was being made - as were others on here
