I was sick for about 5 days after Pfizer shot #1.
My brother and wife gets does 2 on Friday, Mom on 3/15, FIL on 3/16 and My daughter and I on 3/17.

1 week from today just about whole family will have been vaccinated. My wife is the only one who has not been eligible, but is in the next group.

Got the second Moderna yesterday. Side effects same as the first; mild arm pain peaked in about twelve hours and gone in twelve more.

    Pfizer is a bitch.

If you have a reaction expect at least 24 hours of real symptoms starting 8-12 hours after the innoculation.

Dose 1: By 8 hours in arm was so sore I couldn't lift it above my shoulder. Then fever and chills for 16 hours. Then moderate stomach issues for a couple of days.

Dose 2: Arm much less sore but I developed a red band across my arm around the innoculation site that is still sore 5 days later. Fever and chills for 24 hours starting about 12 hours in. Sore stomach, painful bloat for another day after that.

I have no idea what the percentage is of people who develop the reactive syndrome however the three people in my family who got Pfizer shots all got it. The two who got Moderna shots did not.

This doesn't mean don't get the Pfizer shot if it is available, just that there seems to be a higher likelihood that your immune system will go berserk from it than from the Moderna.

It’s a total crapshoot Br4d, most of my colleagues who got Moderna were in bed for 2-3 days after second shot.

My shoulder hurting for about 8hrs was only side effects with first shot of Pfizer.

My father showed absolutely no symptoms after the Moderna dose 1 in early Feb. He goes for dose 2 on Saturday, will follow up with side effects then.

So, the drug companies are basically conducting a live fire trial because appropriate clinical trials simply could not be completed at “warp speed?”

I’m sitting this one out for awhile.

I was in that category for awhile as well but it gets harder to maintain that stance when literally everybody else around you is getting vaccinated.

The place I work got 58 out of more than 300 employees vaccinated in the first go round. Then everybody wanted in on the second. I think we have the normal half dozen holdouts at this point.

All the eligible members of my family got vaccinated and then I got vaccinated.

My employer has become like a community vaccination clinic at this point. Each round has had dozens of people from the community invited in also. Then the next round their eligible friends and relatives get invited also.

I don't think it is going to do much to end the pandemic though. Early numbers suggest that we'll need boosters this summer headed into the fall and that the fall Covid season is likely to be bad again. We needed to cut this thing's head off last spring and summer and we didn't do that. I suspect we will be paying the price for that for generations to come.

Appropriate trials were conducted and evaluated by independent organizations before being put for approval at the FDA. The three vaccines currently being used were tested in trials enrolling over 100,000 people. Those trial results for efficacy and safety enabled all three to be used today in the US where almost 100 million doses have now been administered. Just stay off the Garden State Parkway if you're worried about your health.

This is a bit vacuous though.

Every statement you made is 100% true. None of them include the fact that vaccines have repeated test phases over a period of years to make certain that they do not have lingering effects nor cause long-term effects in the people vaccinated.

That step has been skipped with a remarkable lack of clarity on the fact that it was skipped from the authorities involved.

You can argue that people would not take the vaccine in large enough numbers to achieve herd immunity if we were informed of the risks involved in taking the first RNA vaccines approved for human use without the subsequent testing that they should have received before widespread use.

My argument is that we started the pandemic poorly in America by having the federal government essentially ignore the requirements of fighting an emerging highly contagious virus and that we are now continuing poorly worldwide by vaccinating what will be billions of people eventually with a technology of which we have NO information about the long-term effects of.

@Dierking's position here is the sane and rational one.

The rest of us are basically saying "oh what the fuck, go for it anyway".

Yeah I was going to reply to Br4d. I've heard the opposite around here. Most people with Pfizer, no issues. Moderna 2nd shot sucks is what I hear from most people.

My shoulder is still sore but a lot less sore now compared to this AM. Have not taken any pain killers or fever reducers. I did just get hit with a wave of fatigue out of nowhere but it's not too bad.

The vast majority of people I know have gotten the Pfizer (mostly because that's what the state mass sites have), and the most I've heard is fatigue and chills for a day (not including a sore arm, of course). The reactions from the people who got the Moderna have been more common and more serious, including those, as well as the "Moderna rash."

Glad it went well for you, my colleagues who received Moderna shots were sick as dogs, for a couple of days.

I can say this with a certainty, ever since the pandemic started last March in full force, till today, I have not gotten a cold. First time in a while that I can say I have not gotten sick. I normally get a cold at some point during the year but I have been incredibly healthy.

I didn’t have a lackadaisical attitude towards the shot, I waited to get more information on the make up of the shots and see how they would affect most people, since the make up of the shots have been revealed I’m more comfortable taking them.

Maybe this was the whole purpose of the government, don’t do anything so the corporations can make money on vaccines for a pandemic.

I honestly don’t trust any government, but I don’t want to be so stubborn that I won’t make a decision that’s going to help me either.

Hate to agree with Dierking but I also think he has the right stance. But I said fuck it, if I die, I don't have to deal with Dierking anymore.

Vacuous? No. Confident. I'm well aware of the trial process for all medications, not just vaccines and well aware that the process is not perfect but it works very well and has for decades. I was a "polio pioneer" when I was in kindergarten and can remember standing in line to go into the school cafeteria to get polio shots that were part of the trial of the Salk vaccine that was the first step in eradicating that virus. The choice then was to use that which had been shown to be safe and effective immediately or wait to see if long term side effects would arise, or not arise while hundreds of thousands of kids were paralyzed, relegated to live out their lives in iron lungs or die. The same is true now - vaccinate or allow a deadly virus to run rampant.

There are often long term examinations of all medications but do not make the error of believing that these Covid vaccines were cooked up in a few months time; the mRNA process has been in development and trials for thirty years providing VAST amounts of information about long term effects, only the specifics of the SARS Cov-2 vaccine is new. There is a vast amount of information available of exact timelines of the development present vaccines to anyone interested in clarity. That is not to say that a tiny percentage of drugs have not had unforeseen consequences but there has been no attempt to conceal the approval process from anyone interested enough to get the information. I make no claim that people would be deterred from taking the vaccine if hypothetical risks were blown out of proportion nor would I find that concealing any such thing to be acceptable. Also not acceptable by any stretch of the imagination would be waiting three years, five years, maybe ten or longer just to see if something uncanny should occur. How long do you propose that time should have been, and how many would have perished while we wait?

After both shots I did stop for a few beers and something to eat on the way home; maybe that made the difference. I would recommend it highly.
