How? He's literally never played in a 4-3, he's only been the MIKE in a 3-4. There's a lot less ground to cover because in the 4-3 you're really always the front side player. I don't see a fit honestly. He was a pretty good 3-4 ILB but I can't see him running sideline to sideline.
FA for the Jets is usually more bust than boom ..... I always looknfowa They need players on the edge to complete this defense including a shut down CB. But, yes those mentioned above form a solid nucleus.
Might not be a perfect fit, but I don't see any reason why Mosley can't play well in the 4-3. He is good in coverage and has adequate physical skills. Just how I see it.
We've seen firsthand an elite football player take a full year off from football and not even be a shadow of his former self when he returned. Now we have another with an albatross contract who has been away even longer, is that a gamble worth taking when he hasn't ever played in the type of defense being installed? IMO not worth it in the Jets' current situation. They should cut him loose while they can afford to do it.
According to Overthecap Mosley will count $7.5M against the cap this season and a cap loss of $12.5M if cut in addition to a $20M dead money hit, changes a little with a June 1st designation but still an $8M cap loss and $15.5M dead money. For those reasons alone I see him staying this season. Next season he still has $8M in guaranteed money but would save $8M on the cap with a June 1st designation so his play this year would likely help make next years decision.
Eh I mean he was a relatively slow player to begin with and wasn't really a sideline to sideline guy. He had a good niche as a blitzer/run stopper in Baltimore and didn't have to run wide as much. Could he do it? Maybe. But he's definitely not getting any faster.
In the Buff game he played coverage well until he got hurt so i am not sure how you consider him slow...
This is true. I definitely see what you are getting at and can't disagree. God...what an awful signing.
The 4-3 Under is not a traditional 4-3. In many ways the Mike LB position he will play won’t be much different than what he’s done. The Will in this D is like another ILB. The secondary changes/responsibilities will be more significant than the front 7.
Well I really hope Douglas goes out and spends on one big free agent at least. Adding Thuney or Robinson would be huge, even if the rest of the free agency is mid-tier guys. I understand build through the draft but when you’re sitting on $80+ million and went 2-14 last year, you’d better spend some of it.
Macagnan set this franchise back 3 years in the biggest offseason in awhile. He spent like a drunken sailor because his job was on the line. He was absolutely trash as GM and I like many didn’t see it at the time.
Bryce Hall will be a starter this year for sure. Once he got healthy you can see his instincts and CB were good. The Jets got a steal and with a competent defensive staff he can get better.
I'm excited because we got a competent GM last year and now we have a competent head coach. I'm hoping our offensive coordinator lives up to his billing.
Mosley basically ran an identical 40 at the combine as Fred Warner with the same 10 yard split. He's a bit older but I'd guess he's still fast enough to play MLB. Whether he could learn the instinctual nuances of the position maybe a different question.
Mosley hasn't played in forever and who knows what he did in 2020, he could come back to camp 400lbs for all we know. But... the Mosely we remember would be just damn fine in a 4-3 mike LB position. His strength is his instincts. Which makes him great for that role as he will find the best possible path to the ball carrier or pass catcher.
As the strongside backer in a 3-4 you have a lot less edge responsibilities than you do in a 4-3 where you have to clean up the mess. He's used to shedding blockers, not beating them to the spot because that's what the 3-4 dictates out of their front side player in the C gaps. Maybe. But you're using combine speed totals that are 7 years old by the time he plays his next game. I doubt he's maintained that speed. Mosely was really good but I don't really think he ever had the game speed Warner has over his first couple years.
That's true but Mosley's only 4 years older than Warner and Warner was regarded as probably the best MLB in the league last year in the same defensive system we'll be running. I think Mosley could be serviceable in that role. Granted, speed is usually the first thing to go as guys age.
