Prescott just got a deal for 42 mill a year for the first three years. Watson is cheap.

It's hard to work that image into the dawn of a new Jets golden age.

Happy for Dak, I guess Jones likes to take care of his guys. Dak is pretty good but that's a loooooot of money.

For that kind of money, the Cowboys should have the freedom to sign as many moderately priced third string punters as they want.

I think this is a case of the opposite as Jones/Cowboys played their short leverage card on Dak by not paying him last year, yet had no long term strategy for getting him signed...Seems like typical Jones management of the team, which is pretty terrible...They couldn't tag Dak again due to the cap hit, which would have only gotten even worse next year, and they would have downgraded at QB if they didn't sign him so Dak had all the power...All that said, while it makes Watson look pretty affordable, this contract is not the market rate due to the above so it shouldn't be used as the standard to measure against any other players.

I should have added, I'm happy for Dak as the guy earned the right to get a contract last year, they tagged him and then the worst thing happened, serious injury. Seems like a good guy and is a good player, happy it worked our for him.

And now we get to see their roster erode and hope Dak can pick it all up.

Not that their defense was any good, but they will have to replace two starting corners, a starting safety, three defensive lineman and lose all offensive line depth with three injury prone offensive lineman (two aging All Pro's).

I like Dak. I root for him. But the Cowboys have badly mismanaged their cap to be able to try to afford to fit him in.

So what under the counter deal had Brady been pocketing all those years or did he just truly accept 'underpaying' (I use that term in the context of professional sport land) so the team and himself winning superbowls, tbh I think if that was myself that is what I would have done, I mean it would be a struggle to get by on the 15m a year for 20 years but I think t keep giving myself the chance of success then it would be the best plan.

As it looks from the outside, Dak has just ended any chance he has of ever picking a ring up for cold hard $$$$'s when he is already a rich man.

How much do you really need to think... You know I don't need a team crippling contract that will end my years being sacked 80 times a season?

If I remember correctly New England had setup some sort of side businesses in the stadiums like beer stands and what not that players like Gronk and Brady received payments from. Maybe not and I'm crazy and imagining that?

Also - his wife is worth $300+ million.

Whatever it was, was probably a predecessor to this:

    https://www.forbes.com/sites/alexre...artnership-is-a-real-scandal/?sh=2d51728f7822

The Patriots have redefined cheating on so many levels that it's almost an artform to them now.

He likes extremely deep sensual rub downs from a short older hispanic man. And he wants to share that with his teammates at a high premium for the team. Who are you to judge?

No, it makes the Cowboys look like idiots.

I'm guessing we'll see idiotic results before the deal is finished.

I like Dak but that's too much dough for him. The cowgirls will have to lose some other talented players though, something to keep an eye on

Interesting, how then does that square up as not being part of their contract or illegal payments?

Despite his wife's wealth, he still sold himself short most seasons as if he were a middle of the road QB and not like others like to call the g**t.

Once you're past the first 50m really just how much more can you possibly ever require apart from some bizarre bragging right game.

They will eventually bankrupt the sport, soccer player are currently well on the way to fucking soccer forever. Sad times. Greed is a terrible thing imo but then I have fuck all lol

It allowed them to circumvent the salary cap, which is cheating. 31 other teams played by the rules, NE was able to pay their best player without having to worry about salary cap considerations as they paid him for outside ventures.

Imagine the Atlanta Falcons signing Aaron Rodgers to the league minimum on the NFL books but putting Aaron Rodgers on the board of Home Depot, Inc., of which the Atlanta Falcons owner is Chairman. Rodgers would get his millions and the Falcons, only paying him the minimum could build an amazing team around him.

I'm still waiting for the Rodgers, Wilson's, etc. of the world to take a more modest contract in their later years to build a much better team. I think it's coming eventually because of the astronomical amount of money that quarterbacks are making on their second contracts and the longevity of their careers.

And it's not even like they have to take league minimum - Russell Wilson really can't make $22 million per year for the next two years? It has to be $35 milly? I use him as the example too, because I'm sure he's going to be on TV post-career.

Peyton Manning always wondered why they couldn't build a defense for him...

I can not argue with that, at all, in a business that has a cap on wages, it seems mental to have 1 guy taking a lot of the pot, granted it is the most important position but ultimately it is still a cog in a bigger machine and without all the parts being greased nothing moves very well.

Now, I'm all done with that analogy and need a lie down :)

I'll never blame a guy for wanting to make as much money as possible. Go for it. Gauge the fuck out of these teams.

However, what makes it stupid is that they do so and now come back to the team as Wilson has and Rodgers subtly has and complain about other parts of the team being deficient and wanting input.

Other parts wouldn't be so deficient if there was more cap space.
