I haven't completely given up on the idea of him somehow coming back and being decent but I have a feeling that part of them clearing all of this extra cap space is to still be active in FA while easily dealing with the dead money from his contract after he is cut.
To be fair, this is usually the outcome for the Jets in FA. They either land a big name at lower-impact positions (Mosley + Bell) or they don’t get any big name players at high-impact positions. Hopefully this year the Jets can land a big fish at a high-impact position (I’m looking at you Allen Robinson and Kenny Golladay).
He has played inside LB position in a 3-4 with Ravens and Jets, I know he is a good football player but does he have the skill set to play as a pure Mike? Honestly I’m not trying to knock him but he has never been asked to play anything but that 3-4 ILB spot.
I think it’s more commentary on TGG but also a product of years of this actually being the case with the Jets. And figures the one year we didn’t shop in the bargain bin, we did it at low impact positions... the coach ruined one signing and the other played two games.
Just as long as JD doesn't go giving up QW, 3 #'1's and god knows what else for Deshaun Watson. We all know he will turn into Randy Watson the minute he gets here with zero supporting cast. You don't buy the engine without the car.
I firmly believe he will not be on the roster come training camp. I know people defend the opt out for Covid thing but I can't imagine a locker room with a new culture will welcome a guy like that back. Especially when guys like Neville Hewitt and Maye went to war last year on small contracts.
He started in week 7 against the Pats (the ghosts game). He just didn't have any stats and must have still been hampered by the hammy.
He did play that game, but I wasn't considering it since he never should've suited up for it and was visibly hampered by the groin injury.
Need a Leo and a CB big time. I'm not too worried about finding a Will, they aren't as tough to find (we might even have one already) and Mosley will be an anchor on this D.
This. When we got him, Mosley was one of the best LBers in the NFL. His first game here he mauled the Bills singlehandedly. I don't know if our cap situation will allow us to keep him (Max had a take a few months ago that Mosley will cost too much, and almost has to be cut). But having Mosley is like having Ray Lewis and some fans saying "He might not fit what our new staff wants on D". Just crazy talk. I HOPE we can keep him and I feel if we do, Mosley will be one of our best defensive players going forward.
I believe it’s because he was no longer a Texan, he asked for his release in February and was granted it by Houston. They can’t consider it tampering since he doesn’t belong to Texans anymore. Where other players are still technically part of the team they played with until March 17th. I tried finding more information on it but couldn’t. Maybe someone else can chime in and correct me if I’m wrong.
In principle. They can't technically sign until the league year begins on 17 March so nothing is final until then.
Ideally, we'd have a core that's homegrown and can be supplemented with FA's who are willing to take a slight discount to play for us. But, we're not at that stage yet.
Mosley is a perfect fit for this defense, which requires a versatile hard nosed leader out there. I doubt he returns to that Buffalo game form, but he still can be very effective for us.
I do not look at the past and expect the same negative results. In fact, I look at this year as starting out with the absolute best HC for us, while most though we would never get him. This will continue with free agency, because we now have a coach that players admire and want to play for. I’m very optimistic.
