Former Jets quarterback and 2nd round draft pick Christian Hackenberg is now a coach at Winslow Township High School in Atco, NJ. The Jets drafted him in Round 2 in 2016, out of Penn State and had sky-high expectations, but he never appeared in an NFL regular-season game. He spent two seasons with the Jets, who then traded him to the Raiders. He lasted less than a month in Oakland. https://www.nj.com/jets/2021/03/ex-...-at-nj-high-school-what-will-his-role-be.html Good for him. I am actually stunned that his career was so damn short...I mean he couldn't even manage to hang around in the league as a backup or 3rd string qb?!! Just surprising that he is still a young man and already completely out of the league. On a related note, I actually think that Winslow Township High School is where Brook! went to high school!
I got excited for a second. I thought it was going to be someone cool like waybbe chrebet or bryan cox
Well played, OP. I wonder how he'll fare in this role. It's typically the players who weren't great that become good coaches.
I always end up for a soft spot at times for players that just don't have it and are put in bad positions. Hackenberg would've been a reach in the fifth let alone the second. If he progressed from his freshman season he had a chance to be a good player. But all you needed to do is turn on a Penn State game and see him air mailing simple wide receiver tunnel screens to know he was a low upside late round pick. Good for him though. I'm sure he's a good football mind.
lol ok ok I had a little fun with the headline. You guys never disappoint...well-done, Cman65 and HomeoftheJets, haha.
He may turn out to be a very good coach. Many of the best coaches were marginal players. Heck, you never know, he may end up as coach of the NY Jets.
I couldn’t agree more. In today’s “this guy sucks that guy sucks world”, we often don’t stop and realize Hackenberg didn’t really do anything wrong. Yes he was way over drafted but he is who he is. Had he been drafted much later like you suggested nobody would remember him at all. The truth is Mac ( who was in over his head as well ) had no business running NFL drafts.
