Top streaming shows right now for me (right now being this moment and not 10 minutes from now when I remember shows that are far better): Mindhunter The Expanse Narcos Dark The Boys Umbrella Academy Ozark Shows that are good but I'm not young enough, gay enough, female enough or California enough to say so: American Vandal Sex Education Master of None GLOW Atypical Santa Clarita Diet Shows that started out well and got completely destroyed by hype and douchebaggery: Stranger Things Black Mirror Shows that people say are great but I don't get at all: Bojack Horseman Orange is the New Black And FUCK THE FUCKING MANDALORIAN!!!! Easily the biggest pile of shit on the internet not named Pewdiepie. What are your shows? Anything is game unless it's the Mandalorian, in which case go fuck yourself.
Not going to post my shows that expose my lesbian tendencies so these are a few of the others I have watched recently. Rewatched Fortitude season 1 and 2 since I heard season 3 would be available soon. Now I'm hearing they don't know when it will be available. The Tunnel, a British/French series was pretty good. I've watched 5 of your top 7, Dark I hadn't heard of so I'll check that out. The Expanse I tried and couldn't get into it but might have to try it again. A few others Hanna season 1 I thought was good but season 2 was a little disappointing Luther I had binged the first 4 season and finally got to watch season 5, still good but the earlier seasons were better. Goliath and Bosch are 2 others I thought were pretty good, both have more seasons coming. And I have been done with anything Star Wars related quite a few movies ago so I'll get on board with the Fuck The Mandalorian
The Expanse is something I tried out because I had heard heard it had great visual production and I had just gotten a new OLED so I wanted to twd it out with something produced for 4K, I went into it with no real expectations. It starts a little slow and the initial lead is Thomas Jane. I mean, who likes Thomas Jane? But it grew on me and the source material is apparently great, the way they lay out how the different societies is pretty cool. It's really sci fi without the sci fi in a lot of ways, it's not like most sci fi productions that rely heavily on aliens, it's basically a human action / drama show. I haven't seen a season yet that was not well made and acted. Bosch I couldn't get through the pilot but maybe need to give it another chance, it was so riddled with cop drama cliches that I shut it off. I thought Goliath was excellent and I've been kicking around Luther for a while and keep forgetting about it. If you're into euro cop dramas or nordic noir, Bordertown is an excellent show out of Finland, it's a bit too formulaic for my taste but I got over it and it's really worth the watch if you can deal with subtitles. Dark is a German sci fi noir show and the way it develops is better than most shows or movies I've seen, so fucking good. It's very slow placed but the payoff is worth it. As far as Mandalorian, it's so trash and I'm not even biased against all Star Wars. I really liked Rogue One. OK, I'm biased against all new Star Wars except Rogue One. But this thing is shite. Favreau basically just turns Star Wars into a western with no real plot, jacks a bunch of existing characters from Star Wars cartoons and video games and non-canon books and jams them into each episode, and punctuates the whole thing with cutesy sideshots of baby Yoda. They even made Bill Burr suck, and that dude is great. Trash for fanboys.
I'll give the Expanse another try, many shows that i couldn't get through the first episode i go back and force myself to watch at least 2 episodes and end up liking it. Bosch is pretty much all cop cliches throughout but i read a lot of the books so that probably helped me like it a bit more. Started watching Bordertown but got sidetracked and have it saved to watch. I usually only handle maybe one show with subtitles every few months. I have the attention span of a small child so makes it a little harder to keep me watching.
Best: Snowfall Ozark The Americans American Horror Story (most seasons) Decent: The Sinner - dumb dumb sum ending to season one Haunting of Hill House - season one only Homecoming Jack Ryan - corny as hell but entertaining Devs - very weird but worth the watch if you can ride through it TBD: Snowpiercer - pretty good so far though and overcame a very bizarre concept to make an entertaining show. Sucks but I watch it anyway: Mayans I gotta give Mindhunter another shot. I watched it straight off of watching something with a lot of action and didn't get through episode one. House of Cards is another one that didn't do it for me. I won't watch the Mandalorian out of principle. People who have never watched Star Wars in their lives like it so it has to suck. I'll also take this opportunity to add that I'm sure most of you have seen it, but the Wire never receives it's credit as one of the GOAT shows of all time.
Hell yeah, season 1 of the Wire beats any single season of any show for me hands down, and the series overall is great, top 5 for sure. Also agree with HoHH, Homecoming, Jack Ryan and Devs.
I just finished season 4 of "The Last Kingdom" on Netflix. I liked it. I heard "Sinner" is really good so, I'll probably start that next.
The wire got really baroque towards the end. And all the likeable characters got killed off. Loved it otherwise.
Dark and The Expanse are home runs in my book. Hinterland is a good show that could have been phenomenal but show was trying to be too mysterious for too long which prevented the full potential of actors to be fulfilled, still a good watch. Spectral is an excellent Sci-Fi movie that I didn’t expect anything from. Amazon Video: DCI Banks was an excellent European cop drama show. New Tricks was older show but still had a great 5 to 6 year run of witty, Charismatic and Fun character development. Line Of Duty another European cop drama that was well written.
Snowfall has been great, I like the way this season is starting out. I agree on Jack Ryan, with my lack of focus I need some good action to keep me watching. Snowpiercer has been decent but I really don't see the show continuing for a long stretch. Mindhunter you should definitely give another shot, I thought it was excellent. Homecoming I am finally watching season 7 or 8 not sure where they are at, I thought it started off strong the first few seasons and then lagged for a bit before coming back with a couple of pretty good seasons. Mayans, I agree completely, not sure why I still watch though the previews of the coming season look pretty good. Hopefully it's not just all the good parts of the entire season in the previews.
Forgot about the Wire, we binged that again last April. Think of that show every time I see a kid with a baseball hat on sideways.
I agree on Banks and L of D. I do watch a bunch of cop shows though so I have my bias. New Tricks I couldn't get into. Harrow is a Australian show I think is pretty good, coroner/cop show.
Wife and I have been watching a lot of the British cop dramas, have watched a lot of quality shows, plenty of more left. We will give Harrow a shot. Thanks mate.
I liked Line of Duty, really could not buy into DS Arnott as a ladies man though lol. I guess those things work differently in the UK. I'll have to check out Hinterland. Not a streaming show but has anyone watched Mr. Inbetween? Gawd I love that show.
I had never heard of the Last Kingdom before you mentioned it but it's rated pretty high, I'll put it on my list. Although IMDB ratings are becoming less accurate now that studios have been hiring housewives to bump up their scores.
Yes, but now that it's been mentioned Homeland was pretty good. And WB's description is accurate. The first three seasons were killer and then they were pretty lost and went with the new country/storyline/same characters every season thing although definitely enough action to keep it worth the watch. I know several people who gave up on it after season 3.
