And Pittsburgh was 15 - 1 that year playing at home. Did Chad have a great game NO. Did he keep them close and give them a opportunity to win the game? Absolutely!!

Both teams played great defense. You picked the wrong game to defend Chad.

How do you figure the NE loss this year is on the defense? Sure, they didn't play particularly well but their 2 2nd half turnovers were what allowed the Jets to sort of make a game out of it.

he should get that award. I cannot fathom this talk about brees. Brees hurt himself in the second half of the last game. He had a season last year. Sometimes I believe there really is a Jets bias around the league about almost everything

And are you saying that he's never had a bad game against a -.500 team where they've won? What I'm saying is that he has a four-year history of leading the team to wins against bad teams and losses against good teams. I haven't done the research, but it wouldn't surprise me if he has the highest variability in records against over and under .500 teams of any QB around. The point that people have tried to make is that while his intelligence and decision making are more than good enough to beat bad teams, they are not enough against good ones. When he was healthy in 2002, he had enough ability (to go with the smarts) that he could beat anyone, but that doesn't seem to be true any more. A QB with more innate ability might lose a few games against bad teams because of bad decisions and inaccuracy, but he gives the team a better chance against good teams, leading to less difference in won/loss records against good versus bad teams.

Feel free to disagree, but the game results certainly provide support for that position.

I disagree... When going against a great defense on their field, not making the big mistake is crucial... I think it goes to Chad intelligence and decision making... that said, I don't think I was a good game on Chad's part but I don't feel he should be attacked on it either

Because the Pats ran up and down the field against the defense and, when the Jets closed to 24-17 with 9 minutes left, the Pats went on a long 8 minute drive, mostly on the ground, converting 3 or 4 third downs to ice the game. After a blocked chip shot FG, the Jets had less than a minute to go 90 yards for the tying score, that's why it was on the defense. Pennington did nothing to lose that game.

You're not remembering clearly. Pennington's INT gave the Steelers the ball on the Jets 20 or so and cost the team 7 points. He led the offense to 3 points on the day.

What was the reason we lost the Indy game? Was it Pennington or the Defense?

He didn't do anything to win it either. The offense was moribund until the freak Cotchery play and then they got 10 quick points off 2 turnovers from the defense.

That's exactly right - Pittsburgh was a very good team, playing at home (although their QB was a rookie who played like it). That's exactly the point - Pennington wasn't able to overcome that. Maybe other QBs could have, and maybe they couldn't, but there was nothing in that game for anyone to put it in the positive side of his ledger. Pennington was 21/33 for 182 yards, 0 TDs, and 1 INT; Roethlisberger was 17/30 for 181 yards, 1 TD, 2 INTs. Pretty similar, no? Afterwards, Roethlisberger has this to say: "I did everything I could to lose the game. I've got to play better. That was terrible. The game we played today is not going to cut it." I think he was absolutely right, and when he wasn't any better the next week against New England, they got their butts kicked.

There is NO way that Chad kept the Jets close in that game - he led the team to 3 points scored. How exactly does not scoring keep the game close? It was the defense and special teams that kept the game close.

I'm going to try and sum up all this angry conversation here and try to be a voice of reason, but if some of you guys are going to throw out your ego's here and not pay attention then you are all a bunch of shmucks.

#1. We all know that Chad's arm strength is not where we as fans wish it was. We also know that he went through two shoulder surgeries on his throwing arm.

#2 This season he has shown that he can still play the game & the Coaching Staff is making sure the game plan will taylor to Chad. We can all say that the plays going on sometimes in a huddle, or in a no-huddle has made Chad a bit more versatile.

#3 Let's all go back to MNF. The original thought was that Chad wasn't doing so well in the hard pouring rain in the 1st half, but now because of the new story & new information that he was suffering from the Flu this makes Chad a gutsy & gritty player and he will always be a better and tougher player than what John Abraham ever was.

Now I can read every single Jets fans post on why Chad should or shouldn't be the QB anymore and why there should be a new QB with a better arm. That's your opinion and I will respect it, but what really ticks me off is that a poster like Exit 117 (and I am calling you out) is sitting there on his big (_|_) and screaming out instead of using his brain and assumes that those who support Chad are using this new and FACTUAL news story that CP had the Flu and played out on the field as an excuse to keep CP as our QB for the future.

So Exit 117, have you been able to function at home or work when you have the Flu? Please tell me you were able to perform at 100% because if you have then I will give you credit, but if you didn't then shut up. Sometimes a strong armed QB who plays with the flu can also lay an egg, just as much as a weak armed QB. Your complete hatred of Chad has clouded your judgement and you sir are acting like a complete (_|_) and should just shut up now. He went out on the field sick as a dog and he played a gutsy game. He could have turned around and said I can't go, but he didn't and this was double jepardy. Playing in the monsoon rain & the flu. You try throwing the football & remembering plays in your head in a monsoon raining conditions and the flu and a defense that wants to plant you into the ground. Go ahead and try it and let me know.

As much as you hate Chad you just won't give him credit for how he has done well as a leader on the team and going out to perform in bad weather & under the weather. Hate on him all you want, but don't come in here assuming there was a new excuse by CP supporters when there was a real news story on Chad being sick with the flu. You are pathetic.

That is what I thought I heard.
Dogs can't throw. It makes no sense for Kornheiser to have made a dog comparison.

I guess we all going to argue when we get to the Super Bowl and win?

    I thought so...

Some advice, Live The Moment, Live To Win and enjoy what fortune we have today, Chad deserves our support and has earned it...he is not done yet:beer:

Man, all this anti-Pennington crap is ridiculous. If it wasn't for him, this team would be nowhere near the point it is at right now. Does he have weaknesses? Sure he does. Who doesn't? But he has a lot of strengths, too. The offense is where it is in terms of understanding because of him.

I was critical of Chad prior to this season, and even wanted him cut in the offseason. I was WRONG WRONG WRONG. He will occasionally throw a pass that never should have been thrown. So did Montana, Unitas, and even Namath. But he'll win quite a few for you, too.

Christ, guys, just enjoy the season for what it is, and start bitching about him after the Jets season ends. Bitching about him now just makes you look ridiculous.

I noticed this earlier. Chad mentioned early on ( i think ) in his press conference prior to the Miami game that he was feeling under the weather.

I thought "oh god, don't let us lose cause of some sickness!"

    Chad is simply amazing.
